King Midas

Ervenian Era, 1051 AB
King Midas is an apocryphal Elleniotos folktale.

Summary

Midas was a human slave in the Demesne of Nihirfylwn who possessed a supernatural ability to detect gold. His ability eventually earned him his freedom, and he was given access to his own mine in a place of his choosing. The mine was so successful that he managed to buy off each of the Free Islands from the demesne, and earn their collective freedom.

Historical Basis

There is scant evidence that supports the verity of the tale; furthermore, the title of "king" was never bestowed upon any historical figure within the free islands. However, as there is no other record of how the islands became independent of the demesne, the purchase of freedom is commonly accepted to be at least somewhat true.
