Spinner
Spinners are huge, insectoid, arthropod creatures found within the Southern Wildlands of Pyalea.
They resembled something of a cross between a spider and a centipede; longer and possessing far more legs than the former, but bulkier and more segmented than the latter.
Spinners are capable of burrowing through rock, primarily by ingesting the stone work. They make their home in the tunnel networks they create though this process. They also consume various roots and vegetables.
Spinners produce a unique substance not unlike the silk of silkworm, but a great deal thicker and stronger. It takes on a pale-blue, crystalline appearance, and makes for an excellent material for many forms of weaving and crafting, but also structural purposes.
The only known and documented spinner in current times resides in the valley walls surrounding the village of Crystalcombe, located in the central forests of the Southern Wildlands. The village has a peaceful and mutually beneficial relationship with the creature, providing food and care for it in exchange for harvesting the silk.
The arrangement and relationship with the people of Crystalcombe, and many experiences they have had with it, demonstrates the creature's natural intelligence and capacity for benevolence.
