Pink Flowers Cover Image

Made in Clip Studio Paint with a Huion tablet and a 大山水 (dà shān shuǐ) watercolor brush.
Back in 2024 (I think), I attended a local art class in which we painted a fan in this style. I'm generally not much of an artist, but I had so much fun and loved what I made. Recreating it digitally is a very different feeling, and took a lot of courage to even try. I'm proud of this attempt at it, and I hope to continue practicing and improving!
Shān shuǐ (lit. mountain-water) is a style of landscape painting derived from Chinese painting traditions. I'm not sure if this basic branch with flowers is entirely in that tradition, but the brush worked great for it.
My mother-in-law also does watercolor paintings, though with physical media. Maybe if I keep practicing, we'll have more to talk about next time we meet.

Map of the World

Rin Garnett (via Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator)
This map was originally generated using Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator. I then used Clip Studio Paint to overpaint it using the same 大山水 brush as in my cover images. I traced the landmasses and rivers with ink.
I possibly could have gotten a similar effect with filters, but doing it by hand was something of the point. If you zoom in, you can see variations where I pressed harder or lighter, places where I didn't trace perfectly, or where I had to stop and restart a line.
I'd like to continue embellishing this map over time, adding indications of where there are mountains and glaciers and such. I'll probably work on that more as the story expands and I write about various regions.
There's one part of this map that I think looks like a bird's head. Do you see it?
