So it's like the worldbuilding version of a solo journaling RPG?
— My husband, who isn't wrong

The World is Dead is epistolary/journal-based worldbuilding of a pre-modern setting. It's the journal of someone who woke up in a strange place with no memory of who they are or where they came from. To find answers, they decide to travel the world and document their experiences. We learn of the world through their perspective.
Over time, the experiences our protagonist has and the people they meet along the way will change them and their perspectives on the world. They'll learn about the present day, recent and ancient history, and develop their own hopes for the future.
Content warnings will precede journal entries that deal with heavier topics. If there are any warnings you think I've missed, let me know and I will add them.
Like our protagonist, I'll also be exploring and experimenting as I go. Details, dates, names, and more are subject to change as I continue writing and developing the story. Most work on this site will likely happen during the Summer Camp challenge, which happens every year in July.

Key Points

  • Worldbuilding is told through journal entries
  • Content warnings are noted at the start of the relevant entry
  • Various details are subject to change
  • Most activity will be in July

Reading

Each article will contain one or more journal entries from our protagonist, giving you three main ways to read:
  1. You can read by topic, reading the full article from start to finish to see how the protagonist's perspective changed over time.
  2. You can read chronologically, using the book icons to read entries in the order the protagonist wrote them. This will show you why their perspective has changed.
  3. For a third option, you can also open the map (a Chronicle in WA terms) to read entries based on where the protagonist was at time of writing.
Each option will give a different experience and all are as valid as the other. As long as you're having fun, you're doing it right. Since this setting is still very new, most articles will likely only have one entry. For now.

Key Points

  • Follow along however you like, whether by topic, time, or map

The Author

I'm Rin, a queer storyteller and aspiring otherworldly entity based near Boston, Massachusetts. I've been on World Anvil since 2023, but I've been writing for most of my life. I'm currently working on my sixth novel. Maybe I'll even consider publishing this one!
I do a variety of things here on World Anvil, but my main project is wow that's a lot of stars, a sci-fi TTRPG setting that won Best World in 2026. I also have a variety of smaller projects that get less frequent updates, including a couple community resources. For links to all that, and more info on what I'm up to lately, head to my author page.
