The Conservatory

Living in the shadow of the Tower in the city of Teimor leads to a lot of questions. Those questions are answered in the Conservatory. Both an organization and a place, the Conservatory serves as civilization's foremost expert on Tower-related knowledge and information of the past. It boasts the world's largest repository of tomes and scrolls. Many who step between the two pillars marking the Conservatory's entry seek information specifically about the Tower and the secrets that lie within. With no shortage of adventurers hailing from within and outside of Citadel, there is always a need to find new discoveries, document them, and update the old ones. Because of this, the Conservatory fields special staff called Librarians to ascend the Tower in search of such knowledge, often coming into conflict with fellow seekers of learning such as the Antiquarians of the Reliquary.

Structure

Much like the Darfran Deposit System (DDS) is used to classify and organize tomes and scrolls in order to be easily found, the Conservatory itself is rigidly structured and hierarchical for ease of understanding and clear communication. The following consists of the primary strain of the Conservatory's hierarchy, not counting support staff.   Page: Considered the newest recruits and/or trainees of the Conservatory, they spend most of their time learning the basics of life at the Conservatory including histories, literature, the DDS, and other such functions prudent to the continued running of the Conservatory. They can often be seen running about in the Archive Commons fulfilling tasks given to them by their superiors.   Clerk: Now regarded as graduated Pages, Clerks are fully endowed members of the Conservatory that can operate at large without supervision. The bulk of the Conservatory's membership and staff is composed of Clerks working the many tasks of keeping the Conservatory safe and running while maintaining its massive collection of scrolls and tomes.   Librarian: These are the Clerks that have received special training in regards to the acquisition of new knowledge, both by study and by force. They are special individuals chosen for their prowess and success in the trials of becoming a Librarian, their promotion to Librarian being signed off by the High Archaic themselves once proven to be ascent-ready. They face the dangers of the Tower and the shared interest of the Reliquary.   Archaic: Often considered a Librarian who is retired, but also one that has proven themselves time and time again in the field and in the Tower. Because Tower ascents are dangerous, Librarians often do not live long. Thus, Archaics are afforded high amounts of respect for they, by themselves, are repertoires of vast knowledge of the Tower, the surrounding world, and countless experiences that are riveting and informative in their own right. Within the Conservatory, they act as managers and handlers of Librarians, teachers to Pages and Clerks, and voices of council to the High Archaic.   High Archaic: There is only one High Archaic at the time, seen as the eldest member of the Conservatory and also the wisest and most knowledgeable. The High Archaic is afforded the highest honors and respect. Even the younger, more spry members of the Conservatory such as the Librarians and Archaics, despite their reputations, defer to the High Archaic. The holder of this rank holds the final word on all matters of business for the Conservatory and seeks to do what is best to maintain the finest and largest curation of knowledge in all of Oara.
