The Granite Keep
Location
on the top of mt. columbine beyond a mountain pass leading on from the town of Pine Ridge. The keep sits in a small alcove just below the summit of the mountain, hidden among the glacial peaks.
The keep also often has a cold Mist surrounding it, almost clining to the buildings smooth stones.
the area is cold and harsh and the air around it seems to almost stand still, so none dare to visit the place, and it has remained shrouded in mist and snow for hundreds of years, as far as the general populace is aware anyways.
Architecture
the keep has a pretty bland exterior with simple granite pillars surrounding a circular outer wall with small arches notched into the wall. with 1 of the archways having a wooden door decorated with small alpine columbine flowers carved into the wood. the granite does sparkle slightly as the light bounces off the ice and snow atop this mountain
Interior
as you enter the keep, you may notice that the mist condesnes inside, but as you continue moving inward you may notice carvings of bronze in the walls depicting previous kings and queens of the rootways, as well as flowers below each of their areas. entire rooms seem preserved from eras long past as well, with furniture mismatched and incorporated from each era of the kingdom. there is also a simple study, one with sculptors tools and stonecarving tools. with 2 doors leading into or out of the room, one connected to the keep, and one connected to the rootways itself.
History
this place is actually a temple dedicated to the god of preservation and the mists that cling to this place actually manifest to hold anything built here in stasis. this god is gentle and proctective of thier things, as is thier nature, and has been known to be fond of flowers, which they often plant along the walls and small gardens in this place. one of the ancient laws of this world is that the ruler must visit the god and allow them to sculpt a room and mural in the rulers image, and preserve some of thier power and spirit to be found here when the world is in dire need of a reminder of its history. the current witch monarch has yet to do so, for fear of losing some of thier great power, or possibly even being destroyed by the god for breaking this taboo for so long.
