Ashgrove
Ashgrove is a city of new begginings, it is rather small and has the familar concetric rings of cities in The Rootways, however this city has a darker history, one of much stife in the city as laws of nature and magic were defied, due to this rumor has it that the gods came down and burnt away the great oak in the center of the city. now in its place sits a small ash tree that someone planted a decade or two ago, either as a cruel joke, or a beuatifly uosetting memorial. none survuved the burning of old ashgrove (as it is now known) however on the outskirts of town, and underground lies the charred ruins of what once was, it is said that many a burned spirit is trapped below ashgrove, seeking to cause one more fire and allow thier sould to truely burn away and join the afterlife. but thats just a bedtime story told to overcurious children right?
Town Center
The ashgrove town center has the small ash tree in the center, growing with flame red leaves year round. nearby is a fountain of fresh water, that flows in from a nearby aquaduct from the local mountain.
surrounding the tree are gardens full of vegetation that grows after fire has spread and gone. amoung theese gardens several marketplaces have been setup in the area. creating a natural hub of activity surrounded by and surrounding nature itself.
The town center also has a Direct path leading out of the Town to the south, perpendicualr to the aquaduct which then follows along the base of the local mountain to rejoin the rest of the road network, however the road is not very well travelled, as those that do travel here tend to take the Rootway straight to Ashgrove, especially from the neighboring city Pine Reach.
Housing District
North of the Town center is the main hosuing district, where as the roads expand outwards in concentric rings from the central tree. the houses are not particularly dense in Ashgrove, as there is fear that building too densly may lead to another fire. so many houses have large gardens and orchards attached to them, and many houses also have small pools of water or a stream leading from the mountain through their gardens, these pools and streams are generally man-made, with the help of druids to guide the water into the stream and prevent floods during the process.
Houses in Ashgrove are also mostly made of stone on the ground floor, but many have wooden upper floors. due to this there is a culture of having many of the important belonings on the ground floor. and the only rooms upstairs will be bathrooms, lounges, and dining rooms. bedrooms, kitchens and storage rooms tend to remain on the ground floor.
The Western Construction Zone
To the West of the town center you will find a less exciting area of Ashgrove, as its mostly still yet to be rebuilt, but you will find the main school on the edge of the housing district and the construction zone. you will also find some more permanent shops such as the blacksmith between here and the town center, as well as an inn called The Ashen Tavern where the very few visitors to the town stay temporaily. also in the construction area is the most routes down to the Ruins of old Ashgrove, so many teenagers feeling adventerous and some particularly brave scholars sometimes attempt to sneak down there.
The Ruins of Old Ashgrove
None would remember this now, but Old ashgrove once went by another name, Oakmount where they offered food and shelter for those moving away from the capital. however they also found success mining for Gold and Precious Gems, and quickly founded a school of archeology and museum of history. alongside this many mages that studt these anchient relics sought their supposed power. now all of that has faded, due to the fire of Old Ashford. now all that lives down there is rats and rocks. that which doesnt live down there is far more interesting to the scholars and adventurers of the world. charred bodies of those from long before this time. there are rumours that the dead down under the city will lead you back to the Oakmount Sanctum within the history museum. but thats just a silly teenerager rumour, right?
