CECIR

The Comun de Eiaxemple Centro Industrial Robotica, or CECIR, is a Cincastrellan robotics manufacturer based in the Nueva Catalonia System system. It specializes in highly advanced robots, including some of the most lifelike androids in the world, and robots that have achieved, by any measurable standard, complete sentience, as well as high-tech fabricators. In spite of the high level of technology involved, CECIR does manage to achieve a relatively high output, producing a few million robots a year between their various different lines. However, many CECIR model lines have waiting lists as demand for their robots is enormous. They have also been conducting experiments into gene printing, allowing them to “print” biobots rather than force growing clones, and have rolled out the earliest successful results of these efforts.

Structure

CECIR is a comparatively small enterprise based in the Cincastrella Confederacy. It has a relatively horizontal cooperative structure with factory foremen and higher level officers elected by the body of engineers, roboticists, and fabricators. The overwhelming majority of CECIR’s facilities are on the Nueva Catalunya system, with a handful of offices scattered throughout the rest of the Confederacy and on other, friendly worlds. CECIR, despite its outsized economic impact is still a relatively small operation, and has only a few notable subsidiary organizations, mostly task groups centered around experimental projects intended to test new concepts before beginning production at scale.

CECIR Advanced Fabrication

CECIR Advanced Fabrication is the branch of CECIR’s operations dedicated to producing fabricators for commercial use. While CECIR has always produced and made use of some of the most capable fabricators available since the Great Cataclysm, it largely produced them in limited amounts for internal use. Since the establishment of the Nova Luanda Pact however, the Confederacy has been seeking to use its capacity to aid others outside its borders, and the Presidium has contracted CECIR to produce fabricators for technological uplift purposes. The result was the cooperative's Advanced Fabrication division which mass produces fabrication chambers of multiple sizes for export.

CECIR Medical

A joint venture between CECIR and Llobregat Medical, CECIR medical consists of a handful of mature projects into developing some of the most advanced medical robots in existence. These bots are frequently capable of performing procedures that would otherwise take a team of world class doctors and surgeons to pull off. CECIR medical doesn’t have great productive capacity, and therefore there is an extensive backlog of orders despite multiple efforts to expand production.

The Consejero Project

The Consejero project was an early, and ongoing project to develop advanced androids that are capable of acting as economic, political, or military advisors in order to help various Stelsoc movements around the galaxy establish themselves and support the continuing development of a galactic Stelsoc community. Early efforts produced the Consejero series of advisor androids. In recent years, the Consejero project had taken lessons from the Dora Project and branched into Biobot production, using simplified versions of the advanced methods developed for Dora on a more readily mass producible scale.

The Dora Project

The Dora Project was developed in concert with visiting scientists from Utopia. Making use of the latest uncovered Parditech, efforts were made to produce biological robots that were almost completely indistinguishable from living beings. Using CECIR’s methods, and some techniques (and personality imprints) found in Pardian data wafers, CECIR produced the Dora type bioroid, starting with Dora herself. These biobots are exceptionally advanced, completely indistinct from living beings while alive, and possessing abilities that border on superhuman, Dora type bioroids have become indispensable parts of the Cincrastrella Confederacy’s central military, diplomatic service, and crucial advisors to the Confederacy and its trusted allies. The great expense in producing such a high tech bioroid and the care and maintenance of its personality as it develops mean that only a small handful have been produced however, and despite the company’s best efforts, none have surpassed the original Dora herself.

Public Agenda

CECIR as a cooperative, has slightly different priorities than is normal for a productive enterprise. CECIR's primary public aim is the welfare of its worker-owners rather than any shareholders, and much of CECIR's efforts are about either distributing excess income to its workers, or investing in improving working conditions for its workers. This has ensured that CECIR's operations have remained relatively small, even as it is massively productive. In addition to this primary aim, CECIR has been contracted by the wider Cincastrella Confederacy as a main partner in supporting it's operations in the Nova Luanda Pact. As a result, CECIR's secondary objective has since become to drive technological uplift in Pact member states and Pact aligned states.

Assets

CECIR is one of the larger cooperative enterprises in the Cincastrella Confederacy, but is still considerably smaller than most other major corporations and cooperatives. It maintains a dozen facilities on Barcelona within the Nueva Catalonia System, mostly labs with a couple of major production facilities. It also owns and operates a handful of smaller facilities, primarily maintenance labs in the territories of allied nations. In recent years, CECIR has been at the forefront of technological uplift, and has been expanding its operations, exporting expertise where it can as part of the Confederacy’s mission to expand the Stelsoc sphere.

History

CECIR was initially during the Long Night, largely as a product of a handful of academic robotics laboratories on Nueva Catalunya. These labs, though pushing the cutting edge of the technology essentially could only produce very limited quantities of robots as each and every single one had to be assembled by hand as a singular project. A handful of graduates from these programs, including Bernat Laskaris, Belén Abulafia, and some engineers from the same universities including Julita Menores, and Marcos de Renar attempted to generalize production methods and mass produce robots. These attempts would eventually grow from a project to the Comun de Eiaxemple Centro Industrial Robotica in 4297. The first major lines produced were the Adjudant which became an a highly sought after domestic service bot, and the Aventura't a highly effective advanced version of the probe robot, itself a derviative of the probe drone.
Early CECIR designs relied heavily on hand manufacturing in many stages despite the input of engineers, and therefore its output remained quite small, and nowhere near enough to meet demand. Throughout the 4300s, many iterations of fabrication chambers were developed steadily increasing the amount of work that can be done via fabrication, and therefore increasing throughput. By the end of the century, these fabrication chambers had become some of the most capable in the galaxy, and paired with the final models of Adjudant, Aventura't, and early model Suguici robots, CECIR became a relatively famous and important manufacturing organization.
In the 45th century, CECIR moved in a big way towards becoming a principal producer of true androids starting with its rollout of the Consejero Modelo I, and continuing through later developments of the Secuici model. A major breakthrough occurred when, after discovering a nearly intact Pardian set of data wafers, CECIR attempted an experiment to recreate the Pardian AI that was found on one of them. This resulted in the Dora Project which caused a significant shift in CECIR's core operations. With the process of creating a truly sentient artificial intelligence more or less understood, alongside the process of 'gene printing'. The resulting developments have seen CECIR become one of the few producers of not only convincing androids, but one of the most extensive lines of fully sentient biobots in the galaxy. In recent years, CECIR has also become one of Cincastrella's main partners in technological uplift, providing advanced fabrication chambers and some robots for use in aiding in the development of friendly societies. As a cooperative however, it has not expanded much, putting a higher priority on the wellbeing of its existing workforce than continued expansion, and therefore it remains a relatively small player despite its outsized influence.
