City Random encounter Table
Use this table when the players are travelling through a settlement, back alley, cities and the like.
| Number | Encounter |
| 1-5 | The city guards spot the players and, thinking them to be wanted criminals, order them to surrender. It could be a case of mistaken idendity or the players might really be wanted, either way the guards are certain that the players need to come with them willing or not. |
| 6-10 | The players cross the path of a band of brigands. The brigands either deem them easy marks or to be rivals intruding on their turf. |
| 11-15 | The players come across a lover's quarrel. The involved people turn to the party and try to make the players pick sides on who is right. Awkward all around. |
| 16-20 | An urchin snatches the coinpurse of a player character during a moment of inattentiveness. If the urchin is not caught it will make off with some (or all) of that character's money. |
| 21-25 | The players notice somebody being beaten in a side alley. Either a mugging or somebody unable to pay back money they owe to the thugs. The thugs flee if the players interfere. |
| 26-30 | A horse is startled and in its panic the wagon it was carrying is tipped over, spilling its cargo across the road and blocking the street. Several people may be injured and the people involved are loudly arguing. |
| 31-35 | A Tavern brawl has occurred (or is still happening). The guards have blocked off the road. |
| 36-38 | A funeral procession passes in front of the players. |
| 39-40 | A procession of pilgrims passes in front of the players. |
| 41-45 | A man is selling very cheap healing elixirs out of a covered wagon. He even cures a man's lameness with his elixirs as a demonstration. The man is a fraud, the elixirs are coloured water and the 'cripple' is in on the scam. |
| 46-50 | Two drunken men stagger down the street, hurling slurs and profanities at anybody nearby, including the party. Optionally, the drunkards may be minor nobles that can't just be clubbed over the head without consequences. |
| 51-55 | A person come up to the party, asking for their protection. Who are they and who are they running from? A young woman running from a stalker? A merchant running from bandits? A noble running from hired killers? A child running from their parents? A mage running from the witch-hunters? A criminal hiding from the law? A priest hiding from other priests of a different doctrine or deity? |
| 56-60 | A preacher stands at a streetcorner, proclaiming the end is nigh and that people should repent for their sins and follow the god's teaching or else be lost to damnation. |
| 61-65 | A recruiter for the local guard and/or local noble's men-at-arms is going around looking for strong recruits. He might aproach the players and ask if they are interested in switching professions for more stability, but will accept rejection without pushing. |
| 66-70 | A protest is occuring over the local economy. Causes might be shortages, the guilds, the nobles or city leadership. The protests are lead either by guild representatives or by community leaders. There is a lot of shouting but no violence. |
| 71-75 | several criminals are transported along the player's path, either in a wagon or in chains. One of them, a cambion, proclaims his innocence loudly to anybody who would hear him and complains of discrimination and corrupt guards. |
| 76-80 | A town crier is loudly proclaiming the latest in official decrees and local news. |
| 81-85 | A ball rolls to a stop in front of the players. A group of children invite the players to a round of street-football. |
| 86-90 | The players make way for an ogre walking down the street. He is carrying a load of heavy boxes or barrels, not looking where he is going. He is whistling an off-key melody. |
| 91-95 | A man sells skewers of spiced beef at the side of the road. The meat is actually rat. Still quite tasty. |
| 96-100 | The players come acros a merchant loudly proclaiming that he is selling his wares at a steep discount. He is selling one or multiple items that might be interesting to the players at discounted prices. |
