The Moss King

(a.k.a. Mountain God)

A lesser god also can be known as the Spirit of the Mountain. He is mostly human in statute; however, the skin is leshy-like (such that his skin and flesh is mostly wood). This particular Moss King wears an earthly cloak bearing moss on the back and an antler crown that bleeds blood constantly as if recently shed its velvet (others due differ slightly). For this Moss King, he also bears almond blossom that is perpetually blooming on his head.
His hands are calloused, and whatever they touch (organic or inorganic), it turns into mouldy fungus resembling white spider webs.
Some also say that between the cracks of his bark wood skin, his eyes stare back at those who dare to lay sight upon him. The eyes bear the souls of people's lives he has taken who had lost their ways in his forest.
In his horrendous nature, he is often soft-spoken and kind to those who give offering to him. Mostly of under-ripen fruit, such that when he touches them to eat, the rot that will plague the fruit is delayed by their immaturity when plucked.
Legend tells that he is a descendant of the champions of the Maker. When his ancestors fought for the Maker against the All-Mother and lost, their children were cursed to hold this form and protect the All-Mother's lands.
The Moss King, the last descendant who still holds this form (while others have forsaken their duties fell to become natural objects i.e. trees, rocks, and swamps with a face imprinted on them, it is also said that the air surrounding these creatures are lacking oxygen, leading the creatures and people who enter the proximity to suffocate), believes that the only way to redeem his human form is to obey the All-Mother's commands and one day hopefully gain her favour.
Note the his moss is known of the Mother’s Moss. This particular species, is not commonly found in nature. If found, it will signal their blooming place the location of the All-Mother's new burial site.
More information regarding the All-Mother's burial site, the All-Mother will rise from her slumber (after recharging herself from the previous awakening) every few years or so. There is no discernible pattern. Thus it is up to the Four Horsemen to read various ecological signs to determine if the All-Mother is due to rise again. The first sign of the All-Mother waking again will be a large environmental disaster (but not destructive) near the site where she will wake. Then, the Horsemen must scour the location for the growth of Mother’s Moss, as it usually will grow in the shape of a coffin, signaling that is the location of the burial site (other vegetation such as fungi or rare flowers for the region will also grow with the laments). But the most daunting indication is the moss It is there the Horsemen must dig for the All-Mother's new grave. False burial sites could be moss and fungus grown in shapes other than a coffin. Once the mother is dug out of her new grave, she will be disorientated and requires a large feast. She will likely wander off in confusion if she wakes without a Horsemen present. Once the All-Mother receives her feast, she leaves to salvage an ecologically endangered site for the time being (for example, regrowing the dying coral reefs, resurrecting a burnt forest, etc., or destroyed sites). Once she finishes her task, she will again depart on her own to the burial site where she has risen and buried herself and sleep again until the next awakening.
The moss also contains various medicinal properties if prepared correctly. Extracts may be used to slow the Elder Old-Growth-induced corruptions.
This Moss King also tends to travel in his Elk form. Additionally, such as the antler crown of The Moss King, the antlers of the elks are red, which makes them appear to seem like it is constantly shedding their velvet. Due to their shy nature, sightings are rare, particularly in this Elk form. On the occasions when the elk form is spotted, it is told by an urban legend that an ecological/environmental disaster will soon occur at the location of the sighting. This can also be viewed as a key indication of the All-Mother’s awakening.
Documented cases of disasters include but are not limited to: Elysian: A large landslide buried a significant portion of the train entrance to an Inlander city. A sudden significant downpour/thunderstorm in the mountain ranges, posing a threat to whatever aircraft flying over. Chimera: Deep dry weather led to forest fires, destroying most vegetation. Zion: A rare sighting led to significant flooding in the Narrows, which caused various structural damage to Lazarus buildings within the Narrows.
