Solar Commonwealth
The Solar Commonwealth, or often just “the Common”, is an interstellar confederacy that spans the region of space called the Orion Spur. It was originally founded to put an end to human conflict and usher in a new age of cooperation.
Structure
The Common is a utopian, near post-scarcity civilization. Common citizens enjoy a high quality of life and are afforded a broad abundance of resources to build whatever life they desire. Each member world is free to govern itself as it sees fit, with the Common only setting standards for sapient rights and social support infrastructure that must be followed. New colonies are given marginal support, but are not considered full members until they meet the minimal standards. The same is true for any alien civilizations that reside within the Orion Spur. The Common does not pressure them to join, but the door remains open to them.
Military
All member systems are expected to manage their own local defenses, as the Common only maintains the Vanguard, a limited elite force of specially trained and equipped military professionals. Vanguard ships are mostly sent to explore uncharted space and monitor the borders. They also perform rapid responder duties during a crisis.
Cubits: 5mm cubes containing all the raw materials and dormant nanites necessary for general fabrication.
