After too many sols of working minor cases, she’s ready for something bigger. Especially if it involves smugglers.

Their paths will cross, and the threads of their lives will tangle. Mist loves their carefree life, the only one they’ve known. But there’s Margaretha. She’s linked to Mist’s childhood as much as they are to hers. A vivid memory of who they once were.

A frantic call and a dead body. Was the death caused by a long-term partner or nature? As the investigation begins, the illness from Candamius is spreading in Anunitum.

The Talithans have honored their Ecology, a document stating how they will balance their wellbeing with the planet’s, for more than one thousand sols. Axioms that may force them to choose between their longevity and their morality.

While the rest of Talitha is managing life through the outbreak, Billie is trying to manage life without her best friend. Did the man who was like a brother to her kill him? As she waits for answers, the investigators and the rest of the city face the unknown, and the possibility of more death.

Decisions have been made, safety precautions taken, and a new city is currently being built on the Great Island of Candamius.

In Anunitum, one of The Council of Thirteen is found dead in his home, murdered. A murder that leads to Candamius and threatens to reveal long held secrets.

A Tier-I Ecologist is promoted early to Tier-II so he can investigate. A decision that would face scrutiny if the relationship between the Tier-II, the Councillor, and the woman who fought for his promotion was widely known.

Jolted by the sudden death of the man who’d been his physician, therapist, and adoptive father, Idaeus travels to Candamius to investigate. An investigation that forces him to face his past and the biological father who abandoned him. Idaeus has kept parts of his life behind carefully built walls. The Vocation of Preservation’s newest deputy, Natsuki Okazaki, has disappeared. A highly respected preservationist. A woman who dedicated her life to protecting the planet from those who abuse its resources. She’s also a woman with secrets.

Idaeus has found equilibrium in his life. Until his mother disappears. There have been complaints of Preservation’s heavy hand and growing discontent. Members of Health Services and the wider public are weary of lost lives that could be saved with nuclear medical technology.

There is a suspect. Idaeus knows more about their tie with Natsuki than anyone else. He could reveal everything, but doing so would completely upend the life he’s built with his family. Plus, he could be wrong. Then demands are made.

Working with Tier-II Investigator Pemphero, Idaeus must balance what secrets he gives up with the need to find Natsuki. His mother is at risk, his family is at risk, and the foundation of the vocation he aligns with the most may be at risk.

The life of one woman hangs in the balance of choices that Idaeus will have no part in, unless he can find her before the worst happens.
