Thokran
The Thokran are the (primarily) human inhabitants of the Isles of Burning, hub and primary source of the dragons. The Thokrans have been nearly wiped out by dragons over the years, with population dwindling further and further. Likewise, many encampments from the mainland have begun to dilute the the Thokran culture as members slowly drift away and comingle with the core people of the Saldragon Princedom. Despite their direct and indirect subjugation, the Thokrans hold a generally elitist policy towards the mainlanders. They see mainland Salds as being primitive in their own way (despite the Salds having more advanced technology).
Culture
Coming of Age Rites
Children who come of age historically were given two choices, both of which were designed to test the faith and commitment. They could leap from the bluffs into the water below, or they could camp a night at the mouth of the dragon caves. This admittedly has relaxed largely over the years, with Thokran children these days only needing to swim in the ocean waters or touch a stone at the mouth of the dragon caves. Even with these relaxed standards, probably fewer than 1 in 3 children bother, preferring instead to find recognition as an adult from one of the Sald settlements that have popped up all over the Isle of Burning.
Common Myths and Legends
The Thokrans believe they were chosen by the Dragons, licked by the flames. Whether this is a good or bad thing is a subject of some debate, even among surviving Thokrans, as being chosen by dragons has not worked out well for them over the years. That said, they do believe that this choosing is what has granted their people some measure of magic foreign to the rest of the world.
Ideals
Relationship Ideals
Thokrans prefer relationships to be limited to other Thokrans, but their dwindling numbers and virtual dissolved culture can make this very challenging. That said, anybody can be acceptable, provided both members of the relationship are willing to challenge one another, to push the boundaries of the relationship, and to still spring back together to be unified under common purpose.
