The Frostlands

The Kingdom of the Frostlands

The Frostlands is a vast kingdom of snow and ice, with towering ice formations, frozen lakes, and snow-covered mountains dominating the landscape. The kingdom is also home to a variety of unique creatures that have adapted to survive in this unforgiving environment. The climate in the Frostlands is bitterly cold and unforgiving, with frequent snowstorms and subzero temperatures. The kingdom is rich in mineral resources, such as silver and gold, which are mined in the Mining District. However, the limited resources and harsh climate make life in the Frostlands a constant struggle for survival.
Infrastructure
The infrastructure in the Frostlands is still in the process of being developed, as the council seeks to rebuild the kingdom without relying on magic.
Architecture
The architecture in the Frostlands is functional and utilitarian, designed to withstand the harsh climate and protect its inhabitants from the elements. Most buildings are constructed from stone or ice, and are simple in design and decoration.
Important Cities
There are no major cities or towns in the Frostlands, and most of the population lives in small, isolated settlements. The kingdom is divided into several districts, each with its own unique characteristics and industries. These include the Mining District, where valuable minerals such as silver and gold are extracted, and the Fishing District, where the kingdom's fishermen brave the icy waters to catch fish.   Mining District
In the Mining District, there are several small mining towns where the kingdom's valuable mineral resources are extracted from the ground. These towns are often located near mineshafts and tunnels, and are home to miners and their families who work in the mines. Some of the notable towns in this district include Silverhold, a town known for its large silver deposits, and Goldfield, which is named for its abundant gold reserves.   Fishing District
The Fishing District is home to a number of small fishing villages along the kingdom's frozen coastline. These villages are typically situated near natural harbors or bays, and are home to the kingdom's hardy fishermen and their families. Despite the challenges of fishing in icy waters, the Frostlands' fishermen are skilled and dedicated, and their catches of fish and other sea creatures are an important source of food and trade for the kingdom. Some notable villages in this district include Ice Bay, a major hub for fishing and trade, and Frost Harbor, a small but bustling village with a strong sense of community.

Points of Interest and Tourism
The Frostlands is not a major tourist destination, due to its harsh climate and lack of major landmarks or attractions. However, some adventurous travelers do brave the cold to explore the kingdom's icy wilderness and observe the unique creatures that inhabit it.

Industry and Trade

The primary industries in the Frostlands are mining and fishing, although there are also some small-scale farming and hunting operations. The kingdom exports its valuable minerals to other kingdoms in exchange for other goods and resources that are not readily available within its borders. However, the harsh climate and limited resources make trade a difficult and risky endeavor.
Assets and Defenses
The Frostlands is rich in mineral resources, such as silver and gold, which are mined in the Mining District. However, the harsh climate and hostile creatures make it difficult to extract these resources. The kingdom's defenses are primarily focused on protecting its inhabitants from the dangers of the wilderness, such as ice giants and other predators. The Frozen Council also maintains a small army of skilled warriors to defend the kingdom against potential threats.   In addition to mineral resources, the Frostlands has other valuable assets that have helped its inhabitants survive in the harsh environment. The kingdom's frozen lakes and rivers are rich in fish, which provide a reliable source of food for the population. The Fishing District is an important center for the fishing industry, where fishermen brave the icy waters to catch fish and other aquatic creatures.   The kingdom's vast wilderness is also home to a wide range of creatures, some of which are hunted for their fur and hides. The fur trade is an important industry in the Frostlands, with many of the kingdom's inhabitants relying on it for warmth and protection from the cold.   The harsh climate of the Frostlands has also led to the development of unique technologies and techniques for survival. For example, the dwarves of the kingdom are skilled at crafting equipment and tools that can withstand extreme cold temperatures, and they have developed advanced techniques for mining in frozen terrain.

The People of the Frostlands

Demographics
While humans and dwarves make up the majority of the population in the Frostlands, there are also smaller communities of other humanoid races that have adapted to the frigid climate. These include:   Half-Elves: A small but tight-knit community of half-elves live in the Frostlands, blending their elven grace and adaptability with the hardiness needed to survive in the harsh environment.   Snow Orcs: A nomadic groups of snow orcs wander the Frostlands, living off the land and fiercely guarding their territory from outsiders.   Giant Dwarves: Towering dwarves, with their natural resilience and strength, are well-suited to the extreme conditions of the Frostlands. They are known to form close-knit communities in the mountainous regions of the kingdom.   Dragonkin: Despite their small size, dragonkin have a knack for survival and can thrive in the Frostlands' frozen landscape. They are known for their agility and cunning, making them valuable allies or dangerous foes.   Feline Folk: A small community of tabaxi hunters and trackers roam the Frostlands, using their feline agility and keen senses to navigate the wilderness and hunt prey.
Guilds and Factions
There are no major guilds or factions in the Frostlands, as the kingdom is still in the process of rebuilding its economy and society.

The Council of Elders

Collective Reasoning
The Frostlands is currently governed by the Frozen Council, which is composed of leaders representing various tribes and clans within the kingdom. There is no single ruler or monarch in the Frostlands, as the council governs collectively. The council meets regularly to discuss matters of governance, such as resource allocation, infrastructure, and defense.   In addition to the Frozen Council, each district within the Frostlands has its own governing body, which is responsible for managing the affairs of their district. These local councils are composed of representatives from each settlement within the district and work in conjunction with the Frozen Council to ensure that the needs of their communities are met.   The council operates under a democratic system where each representative has an equal say in the decision-making process. The Frozen Council values cooperation and community, and decisions are made through consensus-building, rather than through a majority vote. The council is also responsible for enforcing laws and regulations within the kingdom. There is a small, but dedicated, group of law enforcement officers who work to maintain order and safety within the settlements.   One of the primary objectives of the Frozen Council is to create a society that is not reliant on magic, which they believe is too dangerous. As a result, they have instituted policies that promote self-sufficiency, such as encouraging sustainable agriculture and resource management.   Despite the council's best efforts, tensions still exist within the kingdom between those who support the council's policies and those who long for the days of the sorceress's reign. The council must work to balance the desires of its citizens with the needs of the kingdom, while also ensuring that the kingdom's interests are protected. Players of the Reverium TTRPG are likely to be a member of one of the guilds if they're from the Iron Mountains region. To become members, crafters must pass a number of tests before the Council of Elders.
