Formal Rubeth

Written on the Walls

With its association with the Rubeoth and their ancient history, the language is commonly used in highly formal settings. There's the modern version of the language spoken by the Rubeoth, but it only bears a cursory resemblance to the formal version that is the version handed down by way of the inscriptions carved on the walls of their ancient structures.

Force of Song

The language has a lyrical quality to it that lends itself well to being used in song.

Depth of Emotion

Calling it a language of love is common phrasing. When you really truly want to tell someone the depth of your feelings, you fully expect to have to formulate it in Formal Rubeth.

Formal Rubeth has many associations when it comes to music and expression, so this helps, but the association came from the sheer number of words it has to express emotion. They have thirteen different words that all specifically mean a kind of love, and even more when you include like or lust or affection or camaraderie.

It is such a strong expression of love to use it for someone that it is usually considered gauche to use it for verbal expression, rather like making out with someone in front of their grandmother. It is meant to be honest and sincere, a reflection of the things that are in someone's heart.

It's an old saying, that if you want the truth of someone's feeling, have them say it in Formal.

It is worth noting that this does not simply apply to romantic love, but familial and fraternal love as well. Children learn how to write simple phrases to make little pieces of art as presents for beloved parents. Friends exchange tokens with feelings of love inscribed. Skilled craftsmen make small fortunes on the ability to carve phrases over the doors of newly married couples, or to embroider it into clothing, or any number of such things.
