Halaydrium

Overview

Halaydrium is a highly toxic lighter-than-air gas found in isolated deposits on Marus. Doctor Vincent Haladrus is credited with the discovery of this wondrous gas and the founding of the entire field of Aeronautics in the Realm of Seas. Common legend says that two hundred and fifty years ago he came across a sweet smelling crag while prospecting remote islands in the Lily Forest. Upon close inspection the crag erupted into a pomegranate-scented geyser of colorless gas. After nearly dying from exposure to the sweet-smelling gas, and surviving near-suffocation caused by displaced air, he took numerous samples for study before an errant spark turned the geyser into violet flames. Having recovered what he could, Dr. Haladrius brought his discovery back to a mobile sea-platform and learned of the material's many properties before taking his discovery to the world. Today the successful scientist, philanthropist, and inventor operates a massive commercial enterprise harvesting Haladrium and other materials for Dirigible construction. Alongside operating a laboratory devoted to Aeronautic study and innovation funded by several deep-pocketed investors.
