Baalzephon's Forge
A fortress on one of the many cubes of the Avalas layer of Acheron, the forge is a testing and forging ground of new weapons for use in the Blood War. Owned by the pit fiend general Baalzephon, the general of hell rarely visits the forge herself, leaving its operations in the hands of a trusted underling. Currently, the forge is overseen by the horned devil Bacxikhoi.
Until recently, the forge was powered by the stolen fire of the ancient magma dragon Yngeradh. The forge has been left in disarray after a group of adventurers invaded the forge through a passage carved by the river Styx, freed many of the slaves kept in the forge, killed most of the staff of the smithery, and stole the dragon's fire.
The fortress comes under frequent assault by the undead that roam the plane as well as orcish petitioners and demonic invaders seeking to stem the flow of weapons into the blood war.
Demographics
A military installation of devilkind, the fortress is staffed by minions of Baalzephon, mercenaries in her service, undead raised by devil necromancers, and slaves. The mindless undead and the slaves are mainly used for grunt work mining the tunnels below the cube or in the elemental plane of earth through the portal far below the surface. Some of the devils are also engaged in forging, and many more are there to manage the slaves and the mindless undead.
Defences
The forge itself is situated below an imposing hexagonal citadel erected at the center of one of the cube facets. Dominating the landscape of the cube, the high walls allow the devils defending the fortification to survey their enemies and assail them from high above, while preventing landwalking enemies from gaining easy access to the fortress.
The fortress has one weakness, for the river Styx flows into the side of the cube the fortress stands upon and has carved a pathway into the mining tunnels below the forges, allowing a small party to enter by the backdoor.
