Chess Set
Strategy and Entertainment
A common hobby among the citizens of The Kingdom of Ostrium is a normal game of chess, which is also used to teach strategy to their children. Played by the nobility and commoners alike, chess is woven into the everyday life of Ostrium. Given the emphasis on their alignment in The King's Board, it is no surprise that a game of chess is how many choose to unwind.
As both a means of entertainment and a teaching tool, chess is played almost every day, outside of planting and harvest seasons for those farmers tending their fields and herds. While most never need the strategy learned from chess outside of the game itself, many children dream of being chosen for a King's Board, or even being the King of the Board and leading others in Mock Battles for fame and fortune.
Where to Find Them
Wooden chess boards can be found in taverns and the homes of commoners and Nomads, while boards made of finer materials, such as stone or marble, are common among those who can afford such luxuries. And it's not just shaped like your standard chess pieces, either. There are sets with pieces carved to look like Dragons, Griffins, and other Aura-aspected creatures exist, though they are not nearly as cheap as their standard counterparts. Despite the prices, though, some people will splurge for the unique ones just to have something nice in their homes.
Common
