Resolution System - The Dice Mechanic

The Resolution System

A character has a percentage number in Attributes and Skills, and a set value for Health, Sanity, Soul, and Vis. These set values are based on their governing Attributes. For basic, mundane skills, when there's a problem to overcome, a character will choose a relevant skill score, add its governing percentage score, and attempt to roll under the number on a d100 (percentile die). This is known as a Skill Challenge and the number to roll under is the Target Number. A player can modify the Target Number by invoking aspects, taking more time to overcome the challenge, or using magic. Challenges can also be made more difficult by the situation.   Conflict is handled using a series of Skill Challenges. This is intended as a Solo-RPG that may be functional for GM-play at some point. That'll get tested for a while.   Magic Skill Challenges are different (since its the whole point of the system) so they'll be handled later.   This is a d100 system. When you use a skill, successful or not, place a mark next to the skill. When you have used the skill 5 times, you can attempt to Improve the Skill. To make this roll, roll 1d100 against just the skill percentage. If the result is above (and thus a Failure in a Skill Challenge), the skill improves by 1% permanently and the five marks are erased to start again. Whether you succeed or fail, when you make an attempt to level up a skill, place a mark next to the Attribute. When you have five marks next to an attribute, make an Attribute Improvement Roll (same mechanics as the skill level up, but no marks get placed anywhere).
