Mandlythe Totem

The pillar stood imposing, and yet warm and inviting. It form has been shaped into the form of a bird, maybe an eagle of some kind. The eyes seemed to contain an emerald, finely crafted and embedded deep within the pillar. Carvings and runes lined its frame, an ancient power beckoning from its very core. I could swear that the wings at either side fluttered as I approached and spent some time at the totem.

Mandlythe Totems are ancient artifacts located around Nonvyrox. They seems to be quite linked to the natural world and its different spirits.

Description

Each of the totems seem to resemble a creature from the region it is located. The totems are made of a stone native to the location it is placed, seemingly allowing it to blend into the local environment. This is further made true as each totem seems to grow roots that embed it into the local eco-system, this still seems to be the case in places containing hostile or infertile ground.

Embedded into the sunken eyes of totem is a different precious gemstone. For some, they seem to match the foliage and natural world around them, while others are completey opposite. Each gemswtone matches the color of engraved runes that seem to gently glow the same color as the gemstones.

History

The original creators of the totems are claimed to be a number of ancient druidic orders who worshipped The Natural Mother. Each were dedicated to an ancient beast that she gifted as a guardian to the region.

Most of the knowledge that was gathered surrounding the abilities of the totems, including how to activate the call to summon the guardian, was lost during .

The first Totem was rediscovered in 273 AR during the reclamation of Vilura. A commune of druids gathered around this first totem and found their magic empowered by its energies, allowing them to cast spells that were both more potent and in a more timely manner. This commune eventually grew into the mountain village of Gal-Tharanax where the Ferestol Totem stands at the centre, resembling the animal guardian of the village.

Folktales

There are a number of different folktales that tell of the totems. Some of these stories tell of the creation of the totems, while others speak of the guardians that were once linked with the totems and their ecosystems.

The stories of creation tell ofThe Natural Mother binding the spirits or forms of ancient divine beasts within the totem. Other tales say that its Leyline Spirits trapped within each totem.

The stories of guardians often tell of someone in great need, with an intense respect of nature finding themselves protected from harm by spiritual figures that resmeble the animal carved into the totem. Others speak of ancient bloodlines that when blood is spilled causing a creature of a dark shadowy nature to protect the figure and pouring themselves into the exposed wound and healing the figure.
