Elves
Elves, one of Fantasy's most common folk. In Nádarrac, they are highly populace, inhabiting lands from Pwca Bannog, down to the woods of the Colfenenaid, to the dark holds of Draggonhoff, and the ivory towers of Gran Hornlas. Though, Elves are also numerous throughout the countless lands of Nádarrac, finding homes in Das Rikt, Folcarian & most anywhere the sun shines.
Alas, Elfin politics are an irrevocably complex issue, with many intricacies. An important, summarised, issue to bring up would be the expulsion of the High Elves. Across Nádarrac, countless High Elves are nearing the ends of their lives, having lived as long as recorded history, or being expulsed from their lands across the Elfin side of Nádarrac.
Basic Information
Growth Rate & Stages
Elves physically mature at about the same rate as Humans, by 20 their bodies have fully developed. Growing to their adult height a little later than Humans however, by about 25 an Elf will stop growing in height.
For the more psychically gifted Elves, their brains do not fully develop until about 40. Mystics are incredibly common amongst the Elves of Nádarrac, and as such many Elves do not consider themselves to have reached physically maturity until 40.
Culturally, however, adult maturity is generally viewed as being reached at around 100; Elves tend to take on a new name, of their own choosing, when they reach that age.
By age 1,000, Elves' bodies begin to physically show signs of their age. Their hairs greying, their face wrinkling, their backs beginning to suffer chronic pain. It is only once these signs begin to seep through, that an Elf is considered Elderly.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Elves are akin to most other folk throughout the world in the aspects of dietary habits. As for widely accepted cuisine amongst Elves, Lembas bread is the most common delicacy across all of Nádarrac's Elvish communities, closely followed by roast Grouse.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Elves are renowned across Nádarrac for incredibly gifted perception, akin to the Elves of Tolkien's works, or the gruagach of Scottish folklore.
Sight
Although Elves of Nádarrac are unable to 'magnify' their sight has an incredibly high resolution. Elves are able to distinguish figures from an incredible distance, able to spot the heading of a group from miles away, or able to distinguish features on the banners of an army half a league over yonder.
Furthermore, Elves are able to distinguish features more easily within the dark than Humans would be. Though, the boons of Elfin eyes' resolution often is not afforded in the dimness of the night. It is not known by the peoples of this world as to why Elves have these occular boons, yet the most common beliefs amongst the lands are that the Colfenenaid gifted long-sight upon its followers after Yuan was forced felled.
Hearing
Elves also benefit from the boons of enhanced hearing, able to focus in on sounds nigh-imperceptible to fellow Humanoids. Though, Elvish folk are not significantly more gifted in the manner of hearing.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
Elves live within a culture of gender equality, as do all the folk of Nádarrac.
Another important aspect to note, is that ELvish society has no concept of there being an association betwixt gender & clothing preferences.
Common Dress Code
Much of Elvish culture relies upon silk, embroidering, foulard & zephyr. Many of the commonly venerated dresses are composed of soft, lightweight fabrics that can be woven into intricate patterns an individual has spent whole centuries delicately crafting.
Above all else, the greatest reverence within Elvish dress culture is the story of an item's crafting, and the aesthetic joy it brings the wearer.
The greatest of formal clothing amongst Elves, is often very thin & intricately designed Crêpe de dante tunics with velvet collars in whipcord knitting. White, Red & Gold being the most common colours expressed in Elvish apparel. This being accompanied by smocked-waisted zephyr skirts running down to their ankles, of the most beautifully sunsetesque ochres - this being irrespective of gender, as Elvish society has no gendered associations with clothing. Open-foot sandals of a firmer leather, alongside a wealthy quantity of whipcord leather bracelets upon their wrists. Occasionally, an Elvish noble may don a bolero, replete with trapunto decoration of their family crest.
Subspecies of Elf
There are 4 main subspecies of Elf; Dark Elves, High Elves, Moon Elves, Wild Elves, Wood Elves.
Though, smaller subsects of Sea Elves & Palid Elves can be found all across Nádarrac. Culturally, for the most part, these subsects tend to stringently adopt the generic qualities & customs of most Elfin cultures.
Many Elves of the land are dissimilar heights to one-another. The High Elves of Pwca Bannog, for example, tend to measure just under 5' tall. High Elves in the empire, however, can measure as tall as 6'7"! Whilst the Wild Elves of Gwraiddcaeth come in at approximately 5'6".
The shorter end of average Elfin height is about 4'7", whilst the taller bracket can be about 6'10".
Due to the wide variation of heights, the average height of about 5'5" is not very representative of most Elves.
Generally quite athletic, with toned bodies, due to the adoption of cultural veneration of exercise and an excess of free time.
