In 2697 3A, a scientist working in the Everglade College in Olympus posed a question: What if energy could be collected from a dreaming person? Could they in fact, through a dreaming person, collect energy from the dream lands? This question was posed on the back of an energy crisis in the world in those days. And this scientist thought, what object can collect and retain energy better than a crystal? And so Valemdrones were invented, otherwise known as Dream Crystals. These shards of violet coloured crystalline glass would act as a conduit for collecting dream energy. However, the first experiment, upon a woman named Irene Addlen, ended in disaster when the woman never woke up. The scientist was disgraced and then fired from his post in the college. He was then excommunicated from the science community in Olympus, and his work, the Dream Crystals, were shuddered away in the college archives, to be destroyed years later, in 2712.
But the scientist kept working on this even as his lab was shuttered. He wanted to know where he had gone wrong, and what had happened with the woman. So through the help of a friend in the college, he managed to spirit away a few of the Dream Crystals, including the one used in the experiment. Through years of diligent work, he finally discovered what went wrong. The Dream Crystal worked, but not in the way he expected. Instead the mind and consciousness of the woman, Irene Addlen, was trapped in the dream lands. Eventually, in 2708, he figured out how to reverse it. However it was much too late to save his job. To this day, no one knows what happened with the remaining Dream Crystals.

History

Valemdrones were invented in the shroud of secrecy in the Everglade College in Olympus in 2699 3A. Originally they were intended to collect Mystia from a dreaming person, but they ended up trapping a person's consciousness in the dream lands instead. The project was ended in 2701 3A. Since then, all of the remaining Dream Crystals were shuddered away in boxes and hidden away in the darkest reaches of the College's archives. They were supposed to have been destroyed in 2712 3A, but it would appear some escaped destruction somehow, as one has now turned up in Evergreen City in 2743 3A.
