Iki

The City of Love

Known as the city where love blooms like the flowers on the trees in the spring time, Iki is the capital city of the island of Ka'ili. It is also home to the Alopeke. At one time it was shrouded in mist and never seen. Then one day, a few decades ago, the Alopeke opened their borders, though they still kept their true forms concealed. It wasn't until just the last decade when they finally revealed what and who they really are. They did so because they had a warning for the entire world: A darkness is coming. Each of dates appear to also coincide with visits by Kairine Kamuya.

Ever since the city opened its borders 30 years ago, people have been coming here for weddings, to find love, even to go on a first date. It earned the nickname the City of Love when a famous writer, Yuzuki, published a love story that earned widespread praise from around the world, called Shades of White. Ever since the publishing of this story, for some reason, everyone in the world began to associate Iki with love and romance. Even historians are baffled as to why this occurred. Even so, the people of this city have reveled in the fame and even market the city as the place to go to find love.

Demographics

The primary demographic of the city are the Alopeke, though other people of many other species have also come to call this place home.

Industry & Trade

The city of Iki has built their entire economy on the industry of love and romance over the years. It's home to high scale restaurants, the like of which people would want to go on their first dates. They have even developed the practice of eloping and turned it into a whole industry.

Infrastructure

Since Mystia technology is banned in the Quatrica Islands, the Alopeke people of Iki have developed an ingenious solution to provide power that does not rely on Mystia. They instead utilize the rushing waves of the ocean around their island as well as the river coursing through it, and the winds to generate power. They have developed an entire infrastructure of watermills and windmills which allow them to generate power for the entire city.

Assets

The city of Iki has some of the best bread in the world, as well as produces some of the best coffee in the world. When people say they really like Quatrican coffee, they're usually speaking of coffee produced in Iki.

History

The city was secluded and concealed by a barrier of mist until just thirty years ago, when Kairine Kamuya visited the island. The story they tell is that she appeared to know the city was there all along, though with her being a psion, it's likely that she found her way through their mist barrier. She then somehow convinced the Alopeke to join the world and to come out of hiding.

This is a story that will be told in a future installment of the Spirit Investigator Saga.

Tourism

People come from all over the world seeking love, because they have heard, usually read from the book by Yuzuki, that Iki is the place to find romance. Sometimes they leave disappointed. But often they find it.
