Ianuaria

In and around the Empire of Dercia and the states that are influenced by the empire, some institutions are known as Domus Virtutis.
In these institutions are the Ianuaria, the teachers tasked with educating and producing capable citizens for the Empire. The Ianuarias enjoy considerable respect; they are typically retired legionary officers, scholars, accomplished athletes, or experienced magistrates who have proven themselves in public life. While the Ianuarias are typically not of the higher class, a recommendation from an Ianuaria can carry significant weight; a letter from a renowned Ianuaria can help someone secure admission to an elite academy; an apprenticeship under a mater artican can help put one in contact with an influential patron.
One of the tasks for an Ianuaria is to teach the students the art of rhetoric, where the students practice speeches, debates, negotiations, and persuasion, no matter what one expects to become in the future, whether it's a senator, a magistrate, or an officer in the legions, they are all expected to have a good and firm command of their words. 
One of the more famous Ianuarias are Titus Flavianus, started his carrere as a officer in the Dercian legions before retired and become a magistrate for his local town, but quickly becoming bored by it he was recommended by a good friend to the Domus Virtutis in Pearlhal where he began teaching in many differnet areas and when it became time to find a teacher for Princess Ira the recommendation fell on Titus and while Ira have discribed Titus as a strict Ianuaria, she also said that of all her teachers, he was probably her favorite.
