Essed

Essed is this thick, gluey substance that is produced by most plants. In plants, Essed plays a role in the storage of water and food for the plants; it helps with seed germination and thickening the membranes of the plants.   Some plants use Essed in a way to lure insects onto their leaves by having Essed-secreting glands, and the plants then use a trap of sorts to capture the insects that land on them.   Among healers, Essed is used in medicine as it's believed to have some ability to relieve irritation of the mucous membranes by forming a coating around them, and depending on how it's prepared and what it's mixed with, it can also be used for bowel movements. it is in the fields of medicine that Essed have the most uses as besides the uses already mentioned, Essed is a component in many other kinds of medine, even if its in some case are only intending to hide the faul taste of the other ingredients that are used in the mixture, as pure Essed tends to have a somewhat sweet taste which makes it a popular choice when it comes to hide the taste of medicine.   The Essed produced by the Desse tree is known to be particularly useful in cough medicine, and the trees are therefore somewhat commercially farmed in the sense that while there are no plantations of the trees, the ones growing in nature are taken good care of and their saplings are planted and taken care of and planted in places that ensure that two Desse trees are not to compete with each other about resources.   If one were to mix Essed with water and then boil the mixture, it would result in a weak, sticky substance that can be used as a weak glue useful for letters and such.
