Silver

The silver in Lirythia is a precious and rare material, though it was once more plentiful than it is today.   Silver was first discovered in the mountains south of Eloxury in a region that eventually became the province of Silveria. The name is purposeful, as Silveria remains the only place silver has ever been found, and it was once in great abundance there as well.   The Leshies and Naga are native to Silveria, so they dwelled there for some time without considering the silver anything more than an aspect of their great land--especially the leshies, who have never cared for anything shiny or metal. The naga, on the other hand, used silver in much of their buildings, furniture, housewares, and apparel until 1100 DE when it became clear that there was a limited supply of silver and it was concentrated on Silveria.   During the Dark Age, Silveria hoarded and protected its silver from the rest of Lirythia, only freely giving any to the Deities if one of them commanded it. When the Age of Awakening began in 1350 DE and a new era of globalism with it, silver was once again made available to the rest of the world, but it was no longer available to be taken freely, as it had once been. Even most citizens of Silveria had to stop mining the ore, as the new government set up regulations and a whole department to focus on the province's most valuable resource.   As the millennia passed, silver became more and more precious until--by the time the last silver mine closed permanently in 2237--it held the prized title of the most valuable gem in all of Lirythia. Today it is nearly impossible to purchase silver unless one is considered "rich", though there is also a thriving black market facilitated by those naga who inherited the most of the old silver artifacts. Sometimes they sell fake silver, however, so it's always wise to bring an expert with you if you're going to buy "on the cheap" from them.
