Life Where Rivers Meet

Davetti was born in Soksu, son of a musician and a dock worker. As he was growing up the town was booming as the demand for materials downriver in Darapur and more and more goods were coming downriver. When he was growing up in the early decades of the Time of Exploration the town of Soksu looked very different than it does in the present. Davetti laments that his home town no longer feels like it did when he lived there.

One Life's Dream

He grew up hearing the stories of the Harani, her crew, and the incredible things they discovered before they disappeared. His parents would tell him the myths and legends of Zinato - stories of Ceslovas, the First River Queen, and more - but he was always the most excited when they would read copies of the crew's journals. Long ago, Davetti decided to find the ship that inspired him and so many others to join skycrews and travel among the clouds.

The Makings of a Leader

There are many different ways to lead others, to get them to do what you want, or to accomplish a goal. Davetti - like all good leaders - knows the skills and abilities of his crew and how to best utilize them. He is not a military man so he places less value on strength and compliance than many skyship captains that were drawn from military leadership roles. When time permits he will query his crew for their thoughts on what their next actions should be before making his decision; his ship isn't a democracy, he still makes the final call but he understands that even when a crew member's idea isn't the one that gets chosen that they will find it easier to follow another course of action because they were allowed to share their thoughts. He takes pride in his crew's successes, congratulating them and recognizing greatness. He takes the responsibility for his crew's failures; he is the one who chose the course of action after all.

Crewfinding

Davetti was offered many request letters from and interviews with a large list of candidates but rejected every single one. He was sure that there were many perfectly cromulent candidates among them but he needed something else. Each member of the Ivende's crew was found and chosen by Davetti personally. Each one had a special - personal - reason to go on the journey to find the Harani and some ability that Davetti thought could be useful. Ahriin has a spiritual calling from the winds themselves and has the ability to fly on a kite. Erevard is on a mission to restore his family and joined the crew as a cartographer, scribe, and quartermaster. Javen has been displaced from his time and seeks new purpose, his skill as a carpenter and knowledge from fae encounters will prove invaluable. Reigus is the only member of the crew not chosen by Davetti; assigned by the Machine Priests to maintain the Ivende's floatdrive.
