Embers

Born from the need to bring comfort and assistance to those in need. Embers deal with the tiniest sparks.

Since the dawn of societies, there has always been need of someone to help expecting parents in bringing their child into the realm.
Whether the seed of the Foliad or the live birth of the Troll, the Embers are trained by the Community of Kindling, to give all kind of assistance, both in actual 'birth' and in the tending and raising newborns.

An Ember is available to ease the families into tutoring, and to provide connections to apothecaries or witches for potions. They are taught the signs of disease and dis-ease, and the way they would cause harm to the young.

Career

Qualifications

As stated, the training of an Ember comes from the Community of Kindling, but unlike the Guild of Sigils and Designs or the Charonarch, the community is not location dependant, Embers within the community teaching those that come to them and guiding them to those that know more. With the travelling nature of an Ember (to check on communities close to their hub), they will often come across the next generation of Ember performing the task just to get their budding community by.
An Ember will meet the person trying the art, and encourage them to learn, checking in to see if the budding Ember needs resources, or lessons. If the bud is currently stuck with a patient, the Ember will often assist before leaving them with extra help to let them get by until either tutor or bud is available to make a more substantial time commitment to the learning.

Perception

History

A profession older than even the human years, many connotations have been linked to the Embers. Their current link to Infertanis remains because after the Treaty of Seccularism there has been little need to change the iconography. The profession is needed and the tools and garb of the Embers are not excessively divine themed. If anything, the outfits serve practical reason instead.

Operations

Workplace

In any larger town, the Embers work out of an abode that has both living quarters, and medical areas. The connected garden is split between the Embers housed there. A custodian usually is kept in the retinue of the Embers, helping out with the cleaning and maintenance of the area, while the Embers serve the community.

Provided Services

Embers are known for:

  • Birth Assistance
Their primary role, in this task they seeks to make the lead up to the creation of the new spark of life easy, both through guidance to a safe birth date, and with the on the ground medical knowledge to help. Should the birth be difficult a witch, Charonarch, apothecary or mage might be called into assist, but the Embers are trained with the healing knowledge most relevant to children, newborns and early parents.

  • Newborn advice
A parent or guardian may (and is encouraged to) approach an Ember and recieve assistance with a Seed or Child and how to take care of it. Problems with teething, or crying, behavioural challenges and illness are all things an Ember is trained to deal with. Common ailments, and how to deal with those early formative years are all a part of the Ember toolbox.

  • Resource connection and advice
An Ember is encouraged to know where the resources that would help families are, and how to get in contact with them. They are encouraged to form connections with these nodes, and to enhance the web of community so they can put parents and guardians in touch with those that need.

  • Basic medicine and apothecary
Where they cannot find more specialised care, the Embers are trained to supply medical services and potion making to those in their community. While not as extensive as one trained in the crafts, these skills are taught so they can be available in times of need and to stop the need for extensive travel over 'simple' problems.

Demand
Embers are a staple of any medium to large sized town, with multiple Embers living in cities or capitals. In places that are too small to support an Ember, either the town will send for an Ember from a nearby town, or a local witch or apothecary will ofte

This is such a lovely article. I enjoyed reading it very much. Where I live, we have less and less of our equivalent to those embers which really is a problem. Your articles shows, how important this profession is.
