Eleothar Angeleos
Eleothar was born the younger of two sons of Leandir Angeleos, then the Crown Prince of Eleonis, and his wife Almea. Like his older brother Iohan, he was raised learning all the skills a future King might need, in case something unexpected happened. In 1197, he married soldier Ameada, who had joined the army as a recruit from an orphanage at fifteen years old four years before, going against his father's wishes.
This made it all the more unexpected and shocking for Eleothar when Leandir Angeleos revealed on his deathbed that the crown would go to him instead of his older brother Iohan, who would go into a military career instead. This also meant that Eleothar's second child and first son Ionathar, who had been born only days before Leandir's death, was now heir to the throne of Eleonis.
Eleothar made sure to teach his son everything he would need to become King one day while also building his own reputation as a just and kind King. Some questioned his fitness to be King, considering him too soft, and his marriage to a low-born woman was frowned upon by high society. His brother was also not too fond of his marriage, but mostly because he had been pining for Ameada as well but had been rejected by her.
Whilst Eleothar proved his worth as King, Iohan grew more and more jealous of him, believing himself to have been robbed of the title. And the blows did not stop there. A few years after Eleothar's coronation, the previous General of the Eleonian Army, Calain Matheos, was appointed Captain of the King's Guard, but instead of Iohan, who had hoped for the position, none other than Ameada was promoted to general, once again passing over Iohan.
For Iohan, this was the final straw. Unbeknownst to everyone, he began plotting. One fateful night, Eleothar took a walk in the castle's courtyard, when Iohan showed up and revealed his plan to kill him and his family and subsequently stabbed him multiple times with a dagger, leaving him to bleed out in agony.
Eleothar Angeleos was known to be a patient and kind man as well as a great King, husband and father. Though he was a more than decent swordsman, he never took pleasure in fighting.
In private, he enjoyed to read poetry, to sing and to play the lute, but not very many people know this about him, as it is seen as unbecoming of a King to enjoy such pastimes.
Publicly, Eleothar liked to present himself as strong and competent, but also kind and approachable for the general public.
He implemented a daily consultation hour, during which any citizen of Eleonis could come forward with their troubles, big and small, without having to go through a complicated process.
Arguably his most controversial law change was the decriminalization of same-sex relationships in Eleonis. Celebrated by some, it saw major push-back from conservative nobles.
