Sites of Lost Grace
Named after the act of a tiny, quick flash or spark, Glintflame in Gamb/t, is a specialized flame often used to represent renewal/rebirth, with its first appearance being depicted on the Gamb/t Comeback Tour Album Cover as well as multiple single album covers throughout the story.
This flame typically serves as a more symbolic aesthetic than a general defensive/offensive one much like other flames. However while it serves a relatively limited role throughout the series, it’s more significant and most important and prominent portrayal lies within what are typically known as Sites of Lost Grace.
Throughout the Underworld, depictions of the ancient civilizations that had once come before, are hard to come by due to years of suppression and the consistent need to repress history. As a result of this Historical Negationism and erasure, things that often depict the ancient cultures and gods that had once roamed the world and land are so few and far between, that what is thought to have survived is generally now lost to time and much of the history surrounding it is now and forever extinct.
However, as their name describes, Sites of Lost Grace, are survivors, dwelling within places of increased spiritual significance- to tie it in with the worship of old gods and new ones. Serving as a rest-spot, Sites of Lost Grace are depicted as large campfires emitting an ethereal flame that is said to feel cold, but not so much in a dreadful sort of way. Sites of Lost Grace are found where the connection between the lingering old-faith and the world around it is still relatively strong. Because of this, they have a plethora of uses’ designed to act as a save-point to weary, often battle-torn travelers, should they be lucky enough to be found.
Sites of Lost Grace, serve as the in-game checkpoints used throughout the world of Gamb/t. In order to unlock the Site’s location, you must first actually find it.
In accordance with the lore, finding the various Sites scattered throughout the map can be tricky, partly because the game does not show them on the map and doesn’t even tell you that they exist. A majority of the Sites are in quiet places far away from monsters and enemies. Because of this, you will have to stray pretty far from the main path in order to find them.
As a word of thought, many tend to be on the outer edges of the map, inside caves or up high, so keep an eye out, as many of them are scattered throughout the different locations and range from close proximity to each other to far away as to be scattered throughout different locations.
Once discovered, the player can use these Sites to fast travel through locations via previously unlocked Sites or other fast travel locations, manage inventory, upgrade physical attributes such as Stamina and Health, gain skills via skill points, and also upgrade the various tools that the player may have equipped throughout their journey. When encountering a Site for the first time, the player can activate it and cause its flames to light up, leading them to save their progress in the area as a saved game.
However, while a majority of Sites can be activated upon discovery, certain ones must be unlocked, usually soon after the defeats of local issues, most often regarding apostles. Once unlocked, the Site as well as the area around it, will automatically start to glow, requiring the player to simply sit at it instead of activating it. Lore-wise, this specific nature of the Sites, appears to be the underworld's method to signal change and those who notice them often are noted to feel a sense of peace and tranquility.
