Wightwhisper Woods
The Wightwhisper Woods are located at the south-west coast of Mithrend. A lot of the region is kept natural, mostly because the spirits of Nature that are living here wouldn't take lightly to extensive violation of their children: the trees and plants and animals. If you do not want to risk the wrath of the forest, one must give what one takes.
If someone wants to fell a tree, they must assure that a new one will rise in its place.
To hunt for food, rangers of the forest must ask the spirits for their blessing, offering something in return to please them, not taking those that give life or still have a lot of life to live.
Geography
Trees in differen shades of green and ash are standing strong against the cold, their trunks being concealed by a thick fog covering most of the area. Roots are running deep and wild in the forest floors, making the terrain away from paths additionally hard to navigate. The dense canopy only rarely allows rays of light to reach the floor cloaking the area in dim light at day and in complete darkness at night. Occasionally one can find a clearing or a lake, opening up the roof of green to reveal a clear sky and a sea of stars at night.
In winter and at night, trees and plants are sparkling in the lantern ligth from the thin layer of rime building a coat on the surface.
To the coast the woods yield to sandy shores and strong waves.
Localized Phenomena
Spirits of Nature wander these parts in abundance. Especialy in the dark they love to come out to dance playfully, tend to the woods and plants or just entertain each other. Their care for the forests causes plants to bear fruit and animals to stay healthy despite conditions not being well suited for survival ofeither.
Strangers are usually met cautious but always with a bit of curiosity. Some spirits like to trick wanderes and adventurers, causing mischief and disorientation. Some lights you follow at night might lead you astray.
There are some spirits though, that rather keep away and prefer to live in solitude. If anyone enters their territory they will be met with agression and chased away or worse.
Climate
Frostbitten winds travel fown from the fortress of ice, which resides on top of Spiritdrift Falls, bringing long and harsh winters to the Wightwhisper Woods. The air, icecold and sharp, stings in the lungs if not acustomed to these parts. 3/4 of a cylce the area is experiencing a harsh winter with only a few hours of light at day. The rest of they cycle, the light kisses the trees abuot twice as long and temperatures rise above frost during those hours. The wood's floors are constanly covered in a mist that seeps into ones bones and causes rime to build on skin fast, if not protected by suitable attire.
