Sehanine

Goddess of the moon and dreams.  In ancient times she was primarily an elven goddess, but over time as the various peoples of Keradrin began to mingle with one another, so too did their deities, and Sehanine's faith is now widespread among many ancestries.  Her aspect as the goddess of dreams has grown stronger as her faith has spread among those ancestries who dream as they sleep.

She is most closely associated with her daughter Sernosivend, goddess of night and the stars, as well as her fellow elven deities Freya and Eilistraee. The goddess of dreams and the daughter of Lolth have worked together to further Eilistraee's mission to reach out to the elves of the Deep Realms -- while they know nothing of the moon, they do dream, and Sehanine can thus reach many of them, often guiding those she favors even if they know nothing of her existence.

Sehanine's worship days -- or more accurately, nights -- are on the new moon and full moon.  Life events such as weddings and the welcoming of new children to a family are celebrated on the night of the new moon, while dedications of clergy, paladin oath ceremonies, and the welcoming of adult worshipers into the faith are celebrated on the night of a full moon.  Her clerics and especially devout worshipers make prayers and offerings to Sehanine at moonrise, moonset, or both.

The moon goddess' greatest festival of the year is held on the first new moon after the winter solstice, with celebrations, feasting, music and dance beginning at moonrise and sometimes continuing right through until moonset.  Dedications of high clergy are also held at this time, in a series of rituals that begin at the new moon and are completed on the full moon two weeks later.

The sacred spaces of Sehanine vary widely and can consist of anything from large temples with a full clerical staff to a niche in the earth with a view of the rising moon, where a seeker can sleep and commune with the goddess in dreams.

Sehanine communicates directly with mortals as frequently as gods like Sukunabikona do, though she does so only in dreams.  She has been known to intervene on behalf of a favored worshiper, but it is very rare for her to manifest in the waking world in such a fashion.

The clerics of Sehanine are highly focused on healing and building connections between the faithful.  The ceremony of Dreamfasting is a unique example of their work.

Sehanine's sacred animal is the nightingale.  Her symbol is a full moon wrapped with a moonbow.
