Misfit Mayhem, Vol. 1

Guide to Misfit Manor and Beyond, Winter's Evening 301 EA

Lady of the Tome,

You have been charged with the safekeeping of knowledge while I am away. Please keep a ledger of the party's adventures in the areas surrounding our home, including the dangers and favorable encounters that they have experienced. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

- Her Lady Furriness

Welcome to Volume 1 of Misfit Mayhem, the recap of all things Meddling Misfits! Quick introductions before we dive into the absolute chaos that is this adventuring party and their experiences. I am Sayble of the Tome, mousy headwarmer and research extrodinaire. This will be a quick refresher on the most important locations surrounding the newly completed Misfit Manor, as tasked to me by Her Lady Furriness (see letter above). Use the magically enhanced map (over that direction -->) to refresh your memory as you follow along with my commentary.

Locations

Misfit Manor

Things at the Manor are so far normal, but the lake behind seems to have some interesting inhabitants, as shown by the tenticles in the lake and the hydra shrine found in a cave near the lake's shores.   As much as I would love to cover what has been occurring at the Manor and the closely surrounding region, that will have to be its own edition. Keep an eye out for Volume 1.5 for a special edition look at the manor, grounds, and what is waiting for us in the lake!

Clearrun

Clearrun Catch
A Realistic Rendition of the Fish Caught in Clearrun

While not there myself, I was given a very detailed account of the fish caught in the river in Clearrun, as well as the somewhat disasterous events that led to Darius and Arina in the river to begin with.
Clearrun is the closest village to Misfit Manor, only a day away. While I have not been there myself, I have heard various accounts of what took place there that caused the Meddling Misfits to be lauded as heroes and have a feast thrown in their honor. Many of these stories begin with a rather unsavory encounter that the party's resident Blacksmithing Ranger had with the local apothecary. Word to the wise, Darius, do not take unknown potions from strangers.   By Arina's accounts, while in the river near Clearrun, an odd cave was discovered, drawing more curiosity as the job board in the White Wake reported a missing barge and goods, as per Albrecht Fenwillow, the town's mayor. Back into the river the party went, finding something larger than life that was not truly expected.   Having corresponded with some of the local townsfolk briefly, the behemoth cat-like fish that was removed from the river was a historic record, reaching lengths of seventeen feet, but local legends have now led many to believe that the fish was nearly thirty feet in length! This is what happens when great deeds are not properly recorded soon after they happen. Because of the catching of a great fish, the party was honored at a feast and came home with far more fish than we could ever eat willingly.

Emerket

I was here for this one *squeak*! Mauskin's first adventure did not go how the books said it would. Emerket is to the north of Misfit Manor, a couple of days travel through relatively safe areas of the Great Plains. Between being partially squashed by a Dinosaur, using the resident mouse Mage as a grabber on a string in a ravine, and everything else that could happen in the wilds of Traveler's Grass, I'm surprised we made it at all.   Having been summoned by the lord of Kraklends, our time in Emerket was short. The accommodations at the Golden Crown were top-notch, including the cheese board that was simply *chef's kiss. A good night's rest couldn't have been much better, but our giant sleepover was rudely interrupted by what some of the others referred to as invisible stalkers, something that our Gunslinger had run into before with Her Lady Furriness and the older party members.   It seems Abella, our lovely bard, had mentioned such possibilities to us before, but I will fully admit, the Gunslinger is not used to being in charge without a giant Ursakin to back him up. Hopefully, meeting a lord and being a big shiny noble will help him make better decisions!

Kraklends

Kraklends Bridge
Rendition subject to change. I have yet to see this so-called magnificent feat of Human engineering.
Author's Note: This section is still in progress. Most of the city has yet to be seen.   I will apologize now that this section is not up to the same standards or wit as the others, but our time in Kraklends has been relatively short as of this writing. Our purpose for being here is that Kaito, the noble Gunslinger, was called to appear before Edric Kraklen, the lord of this province. Apparently, the party had put this off too long, and now the summons was less an invitation and more of a command.   Our trip also correlated with the Days of Dawn, a particular holiday in the Human Empire, one that brought a fatherly change to Sergei, the artificer who shares my love of knowledge. While most of us secured lodgings at an inn that I cannot recall the name of, Sergei helped the people of the city in whatever way he could, exemplifying what I knew about this giving season here.   Another event occurring during our time here is the opening of a bridge across the Depths, a part of the Great Plains that is dangerous on a good day and deadly on a bad one. Our crossing of the Depths outside of Kraklends is not on my list of things to do again, and with this so-called feat of Human engineering, we may not have to!   In terms of shopping, Kraklends has a great number of shops and wares to purchase, enough so that our pockets are lighter, but nothing compared to the possibilities in Stronghold. I may have to bother someone to accompany me to the capitol once we have returned home so that I can fill my tome with greater spells, ones that may better aid a small mouse in the wide world. And also a better scarf for Darius' balding head if I am going to continue to perch atop the Dwarf for the foreseeable future.

Spotlight: Stronghold

Stronghold is the capital of the Human Empire and where I hailed from before joining the Meddling Misfits! This wonderful city is a three-day journey from our newly remodeled manor and has been a point of interest for all of us during this rebuilding period.   I have far too much to say on the topic of Stronghold, so I may have to release an extra special edition (Volume 1.7!!) to cover everything that everyone in the group has done in the capital city so far.

Settlement | Apr 15, 2021

The grand capital of the Human Empire is an expansive city, to even walk from the northern gate to the southern takes hours. Here you will find wares from everywhere in the world, a diverse population living in relative peace with Humans and magic.

Misplaced Misfits

At the time of writing, a number of the Meddling Misfits are away from the manor on specific missions.

Arina

Her Lady Furriness was invited to visit the Lutrine Paladins of the Order of the Alabaster Clam that live near Lake Idryl. Leaving soon after the groundbreaking of the rebuilding of Misfit Manor, her return date is currently undetermined, although much has been said about her hopefully swift return.

Neoma Bellona

Neoma

Lady Neoma Bellona was called on a special mission as determined by her profession's guild. The mission was not disclosed to the rest of the party, and we are awaiting any further information from Neoma upon her return. As of this writing, the Misfits are wishing her godspeed and safety on her solo journey.

Dino Danger!

The Great Plains is a completely different world from my home in the gentle Little Greenwood. Here, creatures that are stories! tall roam wild in towering grasses and can eat you before you even realize. There's definitely a bit of fear involved for someone my size traveling these parts, but no one is safe from the prehistoric predators that call the grass home.   Tyrannosaurus are far from the biggest issue here. Yes, the party has had issues with Allosaurus attacking and eventually falling flat on people definitely not strong enough to save themselves, but would you believe that there is something even worse than the luck of the Meddling Misfits?   I'm not sure which of the gods made the Dinosaurs, I do hope it wasn't Dern, but who in their right mind thought it was a great idea to make the Dilophosaurus and make it spit poison?!
