Grassland Goblins

Unqualified and Untrained

Makeshift tents are built quickly, the group of them looking little more than large canvases thrown over whatever could get them off the ground. Half-eaten food littered the ground, some covered in mold and rot, but of little interest to those who walked over it and splattered it into the dirt. Alcohol was abundant, the drinking giving way to raucous merriment, too loud for those in the miles around not to hear. There was little structure or organization here, expectations nonexistent.   Tomorrow, the mess would be left where it lay, masses of tired feet stumbling about, grabbing what they can, before moving on to the next place. As the sun sets again, the cycle will renew, tents and scraps of cloth being used for shelter, food past its prime being consumed, and plentiful alcohol flowing, even if they have to steal it. This is the life of Goblins of the Great Plains, ones considered Scouts and foot Soldiers for those who require the masses to do their bidding.   The Grassland Goblins are considered the lowest rank of the Goblinoid militia. Often left to their own devices, their job was to scout and report back, harassing Adventurers when possible and stealing whatever they could. These groups were often not successful in their duties, but were still a nuisance to those who traveled the Great Plains. Even the failures of the Grassland Goblins convinced Adventurers and other travelers to keep away from the Goblins as much as possible.

Composition

Manpower

The Grassland Goblins are the largest group of the Goblinoid militia. At any given point, there are usually a few thousand Goblins scattered across the Great Plains in small bands of fifty or less. The bands may be larger or smaller depending on the area they are covering or how many Adventurers travel through any given spot.

Training

While part of the militia, these Goblins are not trained in the slightest, which may be what contributes to their high rate of failure. Some specific Goblins in each group may have minimal training in spell casting or the use of their specialized horn to organize the Goblins or call for additional aid, but overall, the majority of these groups may barely know how to use a sword, bow, or shield.

History

While bands of Goblins and other Goblinoids have existed throughout most of the Great Plains for centuries, they did not become organized until the early days of the Eldritch War. In many instances, small bands of unorganized Goblins joined with Bugbears and Hobgoblins, giving them some structure. As the chaos of the Eldritch War continued, these bands of Goblins joined with other people, sewing discord wherever they could.   After the Eldritch War, these bands kept some of their organization, often having a Hobgoblin in charge with a handful of specially trained Goblins filling different roles. It is not uncommon for the Grassland Goblins and other bands of Goblins to align with Orcs, cultists, and other entities that wish to cause harm to the majority of those that live within the Great Plains.
