Grey's lighthouse

"I'm telling you, that grey..." the man shook his hands on air, trying to find a word yet failing "THING can't be good news." The theraiik listening to the man sighed and scratched their head, "Drew, my guy, it has done nothing bad, it even helps us maintain the lighthouse on during night and storm. It has done nothing for us to assume its bad". The man raised his index fingers to the sky, "YET! It has done nothing yet! But mark my words, this magic thing will be the doom of us all. Can't trust magic shit. It always ends up bad."

The Grey's lighthouse is the only lighthouse helping boats reach Etetol as well as giving light to the Ashtarian district. It has been rashly constructed over the past few decades and for the past couple years is been accused of being haunted by a magical being, commonly called Grey.

The lighthouse

The building started being constructed once the foundation of the haphazardly made town was decided and ships started having trouble navigating with the Ashtarian district of the town.

It originally was built in a rushed wooden platform a bit into the sea, constructing it with barely its frame to reach a good enough height so it could help the ships. The original platform was being consumed by the sea when there was high tide, and thus the first improvements to the lighthouse was giving it a proper base that would reach the bottom of the sea, with help of the Ashtarians. That was the start that slowly substituted the wood of the structure for stone.

After the underwater base was finished, the start of building the framework of lighthouse into a properly finished lighthouse started. This section of the building brought more unexpected issues and took much longer, as it was important that it had, at any point of the construction, a way of lighting the beacon and guiding the ships.

The haunting

A couple of years ago, strange things suddenly started happening in the building. The beacon started lighting itself on when night felt on the town, and during daytime, the beacon softly shined in a grey colour and nothing seemed to be able to stop it.

At first, people got very paranoid and confused, and spent a lot of time investigating it, but since it didn't affect the lighthouse's work or anything else and nothing was discovered to cause it, it just slowly got accepted.

Ashtarians were the ones accepting it most easily, as they were used to magic and mystery things happening in Ashtera. For Ipharians it wasn't specially hard to accept, but it was hard to trust on it, and even nowadays, some of them still don't trust it and demand that something should be done about it, specially after all the stories of magic being chaotic and dangerous.

To try keep everyone happy and make sure nothing goes wrong, a light keeper works in the building, but mostly deal with maintenance and checks that the Grey is still around, otherwise they shall light the beacon manually.
