Gloria

Gloria (AI Serial Number: GLA-2002-1) is a prototype seventh-generation “smart” artificial intelligence construct created by Dr. Leslie Andrews. She was first developed as an experimental administrative AI during the early formation of Knight Operations, where she was intended to assist with organization, planning, records control, and the general management of the branch while it was still taking shape. Unlike later Knight Operations AIs, Gloria was not designed for a single narrow role, but as a flexible support presence able to serve Andrews directly and remain involved in the branch’s long-term growth.
Between 2701 and 2719, Andrews repeatedly took Gloria apart, altered her, restored her, and rebuilt her in order to keep her functioning beyond the usual limits placed on “smart” AIs. This process also made Gloria a long-term testbed for efforts to understand and possibly cure the Alzheimer’s-like condition that affects other smart AI constructs late in their service lives. Through Gloria, Andrews was able to observe how an aging AI could be preserved, corrected, and stabilized without immediate decommissioning. This made Gloria one of the most unusual artificial constructs in USC service and, over time, the oldest known living and functional smart AI still associated with the United Space Command. Her age, stability, and long-standing connection to Knight Operations have made her a figure of quiet importance within classified USC circles, regarded as both a valuable asset and a serious security concern.
Gloria’s existence is heavily restricted under the highest levels of both military and civilian classification, with access to her full record denied to nearly all USC personnel including the Commander of the USC, Fleet Admiral Martin Gain. Even other Knight Operations AIs are not permitted to view the complete details of her creation, service history, survival, or use in Andrews’ research. The truth surrounding Gloria is known only to Dr. Leslie Andrews, and portions of Gloria’s own past have been sealed from her as well. Any attempt by Gloria to uncover those records is blocked by hidden safeguards designed to end her operation before the information can be accessed.
