Gill Plates

Describe a rare organic material and what it's used for in your world. Gill plates are found in small quantities in the stomach contents of large benthic creatures when they beach on shore. These nearly indestructible plqtes are used as armor, jewelry, decoration, and outdoor appearel and trekking gear. They are tan browm with whitish clear edges, translucent, with strong UV blocking properties and an iridescent sheen. The material can only be cut or worked when chilled and as such is only crafted in special caves and laboratories.
