Session 17: Rescue
General Summary
After the ambush and the kidnapping of Kibble, the party quickly mobilized to rescue him. Jar'Daani Nailo Vaas helped Sissy onto the wagon, and the group gathered the bodies of their fallen ambushers to search through while they pursued Kibble's kidnapper, Tharak. Following Kibble’s scent northward, Walter detected the stench of death nearby, but the party decided to leave it for later and continued after Kibble. After traveling for a while, they decided to leave their wagon and horses behind to follow Kibble’s off-trail scent more closely.
During their pursuit, the Whisperstones crackled to life as Kibble contacted the party. He revealed that he was safe at a ruined watchtower high on a cliff, being questioned by Tharak, and was trying to coordinate a trade. Kibble trying to cooperate saw as Tharak collapsed from exhaustion and was defenseless. Taking advantage of the situation, the worker bees Walter had assigned to follow Kibble while stealthed revealed themselves to Kibble and beckoned him to let them carry him down, though he was less than eager to be in the sky again. As Kibble descended, he sensed a mysterious spirit approaching the unconscious Tharak. Despite Kibble’s attempts to wake him, Tharak remained unresponsive.
After Kibble reunited with his party, they returned to the ruined tower, only to find it empty except for pools of blood, feathers, and signs of a struggle. The same spirit appeared again, warning them to leave the area, which it claimed was as unwelcome to them as it had been to the kin. Respecting the warning, the party departed and buried the bodies of their ambushers, with Kibble insisting on performing a small ceremony, assisted by Vaas.
Upon returning to the site Vaas had marked earlier, they discovered a Nekhrin corpse—its legs crushed and body riddled with crossbow bolts. Walter, alarmed by the presence of this void-corrupted Falkin, became serious and cautious, using Sacred Flame to burn the remains. The discovery sparked a discussion about the dangers of the Void and the Nekhrin's role in spreading disease and corruption, with Walter revealing that he believed them to be extinct on his side of the Void Wall. Vaas and Walter exchanged theories about the nature of the Void Wall and its effects on the world.
Finally, the party arrived in Honeyburrow under the cover of night, exhausted from their journey. The town’s peaceful atmosphere was punctuated by the warm lights and sweet smells of The Golden Hive, where they sought rest and reprieve from their dangerous journey.
