The Great Halloween Play
While it was only preformed once the "Great Halloween Play" has become the most imfamous play in Pocket Void history.
Everything about the play was kept very secret. No one outside the preformers and the stage crew were alowed to know anything, except it was ment to be "the thriller of the century." The Amphitheater was kept locked, with a lookout waiting to let in those few in on the secret. They would bring in equipment and props in large unmarked boxes.
Even those who auditioned didn't know what the play was about as they auditioned with scripts from the last play. This way if someone didn't get a part they could tell anyone about it. Dispite some wild rumors the secret was safe until the night of the play.
The play was preformed on Halloween night, and the entire Amphitheater was packed. The play followed and undercover agent in a dramatic heist. The first act seemed normal enough, with dramatic scenes and dialog. The second act promised more of the same, but odd things started happening.
It started with costumed figures moveing along the sides of the theater. They move on to the stage and disappeared into the wings. Then as the scene on stage reached the point where the undercover agent was about to be found out, all the lights in the Amphitheater went out.
Someone from the stage called out, "Get those lights back up, he's making a break for it." For a second a flashlight cut through the dark illuminating the 'Agent.' Before it went dark again. A moment later the lights came back on. The 'agent' was gone. One of the stage hands called out "they tripped the breaker, he's gone." The 'boss' directed everone to "find him, surch the whole place." Then the curtains went down on act two.
Now during the intermission more strange things happened; dark figures moving at the edges of the room. Running steps and voices calling out back stage. Later people would swear they were really searching for the "missing agent."
When the third act started the 'agent' was still "missing." But the 'gang' went ahead with the heist. The 'cops' showed up and a dramatic chase insued. The play wzs reaching its conclusion and the 'gang' was trapped. But the one of the 'gang' members appeared from the wings holding the 'agent' hostage. "I found him boss don't surrender yet." An intense negotiation followed before the 'agent' tricked the guy holding him and escaped. The 'gang' was "captured," and the stolen items returned, a happy ending. The play received a standing ovation.
However it wasn't untill the play's script was finally released that the strange happenings were revealed. Because know where in the script did it call for the lights to go completely out, or the 'agent' to dissappear. He was supposed to use the trick from the end to escape and join the rest of the 'cops' during the chase. There was no hostage negotiation. It was in the script as a shoot out where one of the 'gang' would be "killed," and the rest would surrender.
This has lead to wide spread speculation on what exactly happened that night. Did someone try to kiddnap the actor playing the agent? Did someone want to sabotage the play. Dispite releasing the script none of the actors or crew from that night have commented on what really happened. Exept for a note that was scribbled in the margin of a copy of the script. "Always keep at least one secret."
The mystery of what really happened is still brought up anytime a new play comes out. "Remember what happened at the Great Halloween Play." Or "Do you think it will be as good as the Halloween Play." It's one of the first local events new arrivals hear about. Even years later.
