Pyric Berries

Pyric Berries are a recently discovered species that grows in the Northern Mountain cave system. Pyric berries grow allong the banks of the lava river. They were difficult to observe because of their proximity to the active flow of lava. Researchers had to work carefully to collect specimen samples to test. Special heat resistant equipment and protective clothing was needed.

Apperance

Pyric Berries have a very distinctive appearance. They have dark red vines. Small jagged leaves in shades of Bright red that fade to gold at the tips. Clusters of deep orange flowers grow close along the vine. Yellow orange berries replace the flowers. Because they grow along lava flows these colors allow them to blend into their environment. From a distance they can look like trails of lava.

The leaves have a similar shape to grape leaves, with three maine points rounded towards the stem and sharp jagged edges. They range from the size of a thumb nail near the ends of the tenndrils to hand sized on the main vine. Bright firy reds blend into deep golds then bright almost white golds along the edges.

The flowers grow in small clusters along the main vine. They have five rounded petals on the outside and three pointed petals in the center. The outer petals are the darkest, almost red, orange. The inner petals are a deep bright orange.

The berries replace the flowers in the clusters, growing along the vine. They are rounded slighty oblong berries. With bright yellow orange coloring.

Growning conditions

Pyric Berries thrive in the heat of volcanic environments. The don't photosynthesize, instead useing the chemicals from the volcanic gasses. They absorb the needed chemicals through special cells on their leaves. They are able to absorb water vapors from the gasses through their roots. The cling to the volcanic rock and are capable of growing through the hardened magma.

They grow in long trailing vines close along the ground. They can reach up to three or four yards per vine in lenght and can spread out over large areas. They usually follow close along active lava flows, or volcanic vents. T

They grow quickly, their seeds can lie dorment for hundreds of years around sleeping volcanos. Ones a volcano erupts again they quickly spread making it look like the volcano is still erupting even after the magma has begun to cool.

Uses

Pyric Berries have a few uses and more may be discovered as more research is done.

Fabric: the fibers from the vines make a naturally dark red fabric that is heat resistant and very cooling in hot environments.

Food: the berries are edible, they have a kind of salty sour taste.

Warning: they can be a warning sign, if a volcano starts to become active, because they will start to grow around the active vents.

There is definitely more research that needs to be done into the unusual properties of Pyric Berries.
