Tiefling

Tiefling, sometimes called Cambions, are a rare species of Infernal humanoids with a connection to the Devils of the Hells. Tiefling can be born naturally, but they can also appear as a mutation of another species.

Tiefling are a people who have been touched by the Infernal power of the Hells, granting them innate Infernal Magic and Infernal features, such as horns, unnatural coloured skin, fiery eyes, spiked tails and even bat-like wings.

Tiefling often stand out in a crowd, and can be an intimidating sight. While they can be found all over Exorsia, Tiefling often face fear prejudice due to their connection to Devils and the Hells, despite the fact that a majority of Tiefling are generations away from such a connection.

Having a Tiefling child is seen as a bad omen, either a sign of Devil association, or even infidelity. Most Tiefling children born this way are kept secret, either hidden away or abandoned at orphanages or to die in the wilderness.

While they aren't inherently evil, despite certain stereotypes, this fear and hatred has been known to push Tiefling down a dark path. Tiefling that have forsaken their Mortal Souls, joining the ranks of the Hells, are called Cambions. Cambions are often more Infernal in appearance than other Tiefling, as they have completed their transformation into Devils. The existence of Cambions only further harms the reputation of the Tiefling species.

Infernal Origin

Tiefling can originate from any humanoid species on Exorsia, though is most common in Humans due to their increased population. It is hypothesised that Tiefling make up around 0.1% of the worlds population.

Tiefling are usually born to Tiefling parents, but occasionally they can be born to parents with no Tiefling heritage. This usually occurs when the Tiefling's parents have some sort of connection to Devils or the Hells. Such as being in frequent contact with Devils, by signing an Infernal contract, or by spending an extended period within the Hells. This Infernal connection then transfers through the parent to their developing child, mutating them and altering their biology with Infernal traits. These inherited traits can sometimes reflect one of the circles of the Hells, signifying what type of Devil the parents interacted with.

Tiefling can also be born from a union between a Mortal and a Devil, such as a Succubus, Incubus, Praetor or a Legatus. While this is far less common, many assume that all Tiefling are born this way.

Appearance

Tiefling usually resemble their origin species but with Infernal qualities, such as horns that extend from their foreheads, unnatural skin colours, fiery eyes, long spiked tails, hooves instead of feet, or even bat-like wings.

Complexion: Tiefling skin is usually a shade of red, but it can come in be a wide range of hues that are usually associated with one of the Circles of the Hells. Pink skin is associated with the Circle of Luxuria, Green with Gula, Yellow with Avaricia, Purple with Invidia, Orange with Ira, Blue with Acedia, and Grey with Superbia. Tiefling skin is also often covered in raised ridges or unnatural protrusions.

Hair: Tiefling hair is usually a shade of black, commonly turning grey or white with age. But red, purple, blue, or even green hair is not unheard of.

Eyes: Tiefling eyes tend to be a molten fiery orange or yellow, but some have pupilless eyes of a blood red, blue, purple or green colour.

Maturity

Tieflings mature at the same rate as their origin species. Their lifespans are also similar to that of their origin species, if not slightly extended by a few decades.

Reproduction

Tiefling reproduce similarly to that of their origin species and can reproduce with other species of similar ancestry.

Tiefling offspring are almost always Tiefling themselves, but sometimes they can be born as the origin species of the parents.
