Hexblood
The Hexblood are a rare species of humanoids infused with Faerie Magic or altered by mysterious Witchcraft. Hexblood have a strong connection to the Land of Faerie, but they are rarely born naturally, and are instead a mutation of another species.
Hexblood are usually connected to Hags, or are the result of strange Faerie Magic . Whatever they were before becoming a Hexblood, the transformation alters them irrevocably, granting them innate Faerie Magic, as well as Fae-like features, like pointed ears, unnatural coloured skin, or even a permanent magical accoutrement, like a witch-eye or an irremovable living crown, often called a Eldercross or a Witch’s Turn, a symbol of a Hag bargain, a debt owed, or a change to come.
Hexblood are most commonly found in the Land of Faerie, practicing Witchcraft or serving Hags. But they can also be found on the Material Plane, in areas with a powerful source of Faerie Magic. Many Hexblood can also be found feeing or in hiding from from their Hag mothers, in the the Land of Faerie or the Material Plane, escaped before their full transformation was completed.
Fae Transformation
Most Hexblood are created as the result of Hag Magic, a stepping stone for Mortals to become transformed into Hags themselves. This usually occurs when a Hag kidnaps a Mortal baby, and takes them to the Land of Faerie, with the intent of grooming them to become a future Hag. This seems to be an extensive ritual that takes many years and usually involves macabre rituals and magical education. Many of these children are quickly indoctrinated, but others have been known to resist and have attempted to flee their Hag mothers, some finding their way to Exorsia. Hexblood created by Hags are usually female, as are most Hags, due to their preference for female students.
Hexblood can also be born as the result of a connection to a Hag or even just the Land of Faerie itself. Often the parents of a Hexblood born this way were influenced by Faerie Magic, either from dealings with Fae creatures, like a Hag, dabbling in Witchcraft, or even from visiting the Land of Faerie and being effected by the strange magics that permeate the Plane. This Fae connection then transfers through the parent to their developing child, mutating them and altering their biology with Fae traits.
Adults can also be transformed into Hexblood, either voluntarily or involuntarily. Those mentored by Hags may voluntarily chose to become Hexblood to enhance their magical capabilities, with the potential to become a Hag themselves in the future. Those who make deals with Hags, those that have dabbled in high levels of Witchcraft, or individuals who have survived a near death experience involving and eruption or surge of Faerie Magic, may find themselves involuntarily and irrevocably transformed into Hexblood. This transformation has been said to either be instant, or a gradual transformation over time.
Appearance
Hexblood usually resemble their origin species but with Fae-like qualities. Many have pointed Fae ears, tuffts of fur in unusual places, long hair that regrows if cut, plants or vines growing on their body, or unnatural coloured skin, of a green, purple, pink or grey shade.
Those connected to Hags may have boils and warts, magical symbols across their body, long clawed fingers or even permanent magical accoutrements, like a witch-eye, a bramble crown, or a a wreath or garland affixed to their head, often called a Eldercross or a Witch’s Turn.
Maturity
Hexblood mature at the same rate as their origin species. Their lifespans are also similar to that of their origin species, if not slightly extended by a few decades or even centuries.
Due to their connection to the Fae, many Hexblood also cease to age while within the Land of Faerie, showing no signs of maturing after they reach adulthood. Only when they leave the Land of Faerie do they begin to age again.
Reproduction
Hexblood reproduce similarly to that of their origin species and can reproduce with other species of similar ancestry, and even those of Faeria-Flora ancestry.
Hexblood offspring are rarely Hexblood themselves and are usually born as the origin species of the parents.
