Aarakocra
Aarakocra are bird-like humanoids with hollow bones to aid their flight. They are rarely seen outside of their small mountain tribes, and those that do find their way to civilisation find it difficult to adapt to crowded and polluted cities.
Mountain Tribes
Most Aarakocra live in small tribes that are usually found in Soliemia or Terrasmus, where they live atop high mountain peaks in a communal nest. Aarakocra have also been recorded inhabiting the Elemental Plane of Air.
These tribal Aarakocra are commonly hostile to outsiders and even other Aarakocra tribes, fighting each other from dominance over the mountains. They have been known to practise the dyeing of wing tips before important ceremonies or battle. Aarakocra are also well known for their unique use of specialised bows, which they hold with their feat and draw with the beaks, allowing them to keep their wing-hands free to maintain flight.
Aarakocran tribes are usually patriarchal, with the eldest male Aarakocra serving as tribe leader, and males being responsible for warfare and hunting. Meanwhile, female Aaarakocra are responsible for child rearing and crafting the tribe's tools and weapons.
The Aarakocra tribes of the Elemental Plane of Air are recorded to have a society built around a militaristic hierarchy and known to show no mercy. They are said to hold the idea that when a warrior draws blood, it was a promise to honour them with victory or a warrior's death. To leave a defeated foe alive was to humiliate them. Because of this they also view surrender to be dishonourable (for both themselves as well as their enemies).
The Aarakocra tribes tend to primarily worship the God Zeus, their Divine Patron, who they depict as a colossal eagle that roars like thunder and calls upon lighting with every flap of its wings.
