Editor-In-Chief
So-so Snog, a genuinely talented journalist has slowly begun to accept her role of editor-in-chief. Though she spends more time drinking and fighting at the Kneecracker than actually breaking stories. When she first arrived in Nin she was committed to cultivating on the ground sources, following leads wherever they went, and putting out hard-hitting stories for her readers. Two months in readership had dropped off by 84%.
After a particularly rambunctious night at the Kneecracker, So-so woke up in the Burning Spirit Hospital to find her assistant Editor Tupi Kyno had published the day's paper without her final approval. It was a mess, gossip on the front page, detailing not only her escapades at the Kneecracker but a scandalous affair said to be happening in Tradesman Square. So-so was livid and against the healer's advice, she returned back to the Dispatch to find a line that wrapped around the block. Defeated and deflated she simply allowed her assistant editor to continue publishing the daily paper with what she called "eye-catching" content.
Staff:
| Name | Role | |
|---|---|---|
| Tupi Kyno | Senior Editor | Tupi wears an oversized green visor and has a "nose for scandal"; he famously keeps a network of street urchins paid in shiny buttons to report on who is dining with whom at The Noisy Ingot. |
| Sirra Lightfoot | Lead Investigative Journalist (Dwarven Red Commissions, | Sirra still tries to write serious exposés, but Tupi forces him to rewrite every headline to include words like "SHOCKING" or "SCANDALOUS" to keep the readership up. |
| Momo Mourl | Layout & Visual Design (Cartography, Political Commentary) | Momo creates the "Scandal Maps" of Tradesman Square; she has a habit of drawing the Nisk siblings with slightly larger noses whenever they refuse to give the paper an interview. |
| Rackshaw Ricko | Reporter (Crop Reports & Trade) | A high-energy kobold who manages the walk-ins and decides which stories are worth pursuing |
| Slub "Blinker" Baube | Archivist & "Fact"-Checker | Blinker's job is to find just enough truth in a story to prevent the Burning Tribunal from suing the paper for libel; he spends his days buried in old court records. |
| Kurr Rescales | Parchemnteer | Kurr uses an experimental Gnomish "Flash-Parchment" that often blinds his subjects; he is currently banned from the Hot Stone Spa for trying to capture of Pon and Orbery's garden on flash-parchment |
History
Despite the Kobold Dispatch being a consistent source for journalistic integrity, ultimately the readers dictate what goes in a paper. This phenomenon is the most notable at the Kobold Dispatchin Nin. Unlike other cities, the Dispatch in Nin tends to focus more on what they have deemed "Dwarven Interest" stories. Pieces that highlight interpersonal conflict, stories about rival families, and marriages. Though The Dispatch does its level best to maintain the integrity their known for, most non-Nin residents agree, it's nothing more than a glorified gossip page. Most relevant news of consequence gets pushed to page 6, or buried between articles about how to match your winter adventuring wear with the right battleax and 6 tips for dating a High Elf.
