Spero
Every king of Cendliand is reported to be a descendant of Spero and Veritas . This is unverifiable however as there is no proof of their existence beyond The Kings Sword and The Kings Key. The earliest reference to either are thought to have been recorded some time in the third century in the tale of the forging of the Sword written by a monk named Etheri the Bald.
According to Etheri; Spero grew up in what is now Dragonsfell , but at the time was called Stagwood . He was a peasant boy with a gift for attracting magic and was reportedly the first person to master its uses. He fell in love with a princess named Veritas , and after a prolonged fight with her father for her hand and a pact with five of the naturally magically sensitive animals, he forged The Kings Sword. Upon wining her hand in combat, Veritas had her own requirements: that he make her a key that would open any door so that she might decide her own fate, as her father had attempted to keep her locked away. Using the scraps of metal, he made her a key and chain so that she might have it with her always. They were married and had seven children: three sons and four daughters.
Although the evidence for his existence is scarce, it is a fact that those who can trace at least one of their ancestors to any one of its kings or queens can control and wield magic to some degree. These days the population is somewhere in the realm of 40 million people.
