Session 38, Winding Paths

General Summary

In our last meeting, our adventurer's dealt with the aftermath of their battle in the cistern underneath Algzul. The guard came to clean up the battle, and apprehended the last remaining cultist that Shangri so politely suggested to escort one of the commoners out of the area. Balran took some time to examine the ritual site and came to some interesting conclusions. First, the cultists were essentially using the ritual to try to funnel all of the souls that perished in the fight to feed Sackrym's ascension. Second, the reason why the Kraw needed to be the focal point of such a massive ritual was she must have had a spiritual connection to the place. She was likely from there. There is a third aspect of the ritual that seemed to elude Balran.

The group then went to speak with the Legion Lord Naerfi Skjol, where he proceeded to show the group a sign of great respect by saluting then bowing to them saying, "You could have let me city fall if you were truly agents of the Sorcerer Queen. However, you did not, you saved it instead. Perhaps if warriors like you believe in her Kingdom, there can eventually be peace." He later went to mention that they may be able to form an alliance through marriage... He provided the group with a total of 800 gold coins and 500gp worth of gems. He also provided lodging for the group while they stay in Algzul. Additionally, they spoke with the Legion lord about Sackrym, coming to the conclusion that he likely got his first forces from the great battle that took place at the opening of the valley, and will likely be looking for another source of troops. They thought the final battle of the Dawn War would be the most likely place, but that battle was lost to time. Reciting the song of Gilindrea Hellfast, the party realized they knew someone who could tell them the location of the battle, Drekim.

Our adventurer's then split up some to explore the city. Loro travelled to the tranquil pools of the great guide, learning that the priests here are able to lay their dead to rest without burning the bodies. Gorthak, something about the city gnawing at him, travelled to the forges of Bordin, and while he did not learn too much about the city, he did hear that there was a fire giant on the other side of the Boldir mountains that was active once more. Shangri went to speak with Book Keeper J'aka Gna to learn more about their enemy and the surrounding region; learning about a small hamlet with a complicated relationship with the dwarves of Ther Boldir. Later, Gorthak reached out to Drekim and his plea was answered. He was able to learn that the ancient battlefield was cast into the ocean during one of Surtym's blows, and is now guarded by the Leviathan of Maktens.
