Sky Tree

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Sky Tree is a tall, elegant tree with a distinctive sky-blue trunk and wide-reaching branches. Its branches are covered in layered leaves that display a striking color gradient: dark gray-blue at the center, fading into a bright, vibrant blue along the edges.   Hanging from the branches are small, unusual fruits known as Gale Fruit, which resemble gray, wriggling worm-like pods. Beneath the surface, the tree’s root system spreads deep and wide, anchoring it firmly while drawing in nutrients and magical energy from the surrounding environment.

Growth Rate & Stages

Sky Trees begin as small seedlings, but when exposed to the proper balance of wind mana and nutrients, they grow rapidly.   Within the first year, a Sky Tree can reach up to four feet in height.   Over the next 40 years, it continues to grow steadily until reaching full maturity.   Twice a year, the tree produces Gale Fruit, typically during: Spring, Fall   During seasonal changes, the Sky Tree exhibits an unusual trait: it sheds only its brighter blue outer leaves, while retaining its darker gray-blue inner leaves throughout colder months.

Ecology and Habitats

Ecology and Habitat   Sky Trees are found exclusively in a single known region of Elema:   The southern side of the continent of Raygion Within the Skyler Forestand Near Zephyr Mountain   This region provides the ideal balance of:
  • Water and nutrients
  • Atmospheric conditions
  • Strong Wind Ley Line activity
Despite attempts to cultivate them elsewhere, Sky Trees have not been successfully grown outside this region.   The Kingdom of Singache considers these trees sacred, carefully managing and protecting them while still making use of their resources.   In contrast, within the borders of Samhaidh Talah, a small number of Sky Trees exist but are less studied and are primarily maintained by a noble house.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like water and a lot of luck on a Pacific wind Leyland

Biological Cycle

Sky Trees require:
  • A steady supply of water
  • Nutrient-rich soil
  • Direct exposure to a strong Wind Ley Line
They are highly dependent on wind-aspected mana, which fuels both their growth and their unique properties.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Gale Fruit
The Gale Fruit is a small, gray, wriggling shape fruit with a light, tangy taste.   When consumed, it produces a powerful effect within the body: After digestion, enzymes enter the chakra network. If the individual possesses wind-affinity mana, the fruit enhances that affinity. If the individual has natural resistance to wind mana, it strengthens that resistance as well. In many cases, the fruit can double or even triple wind mana output, depending on the individual and the amount consumed.   Warning: Overconsumption or improper use can overload the body with wind mana, potentially causing:
  • Chakra network damage
  • Internal strain
  • Severe bodily harm
Additionally, processing the fruit (cooking, juicing, or mixing it) tends to weaken or damage its magical properties, making it most effective when consumed fresh.
Sky Wood
The wood of the Sky Tree, known as Sky Wood, is a light blue material with remarkable properties:   Extremely lightweight   Exceptionally durable   Resistant to decay   Sky Wood has a natural affinity for wind and water currents, allowing it to move smoothly and efficiently through both air and water. Because of this, it is commonly used to create:
  • Gliding boards
  • Surfboards
  • Air-riding vessels (Gliders)
In modern times, it has also been used in advanced crafting to improve the speed, durability, and aerodynamics of various tools and vehicles.

Civilization and Culture

History

One popular legend tells of a human monk who traveled to the lands of the fairies to warn them of an approaching orc army. When the Fairy King asked if he would stand and fight alongside them, the monk agreed without asking for any reward.   The monk was highly skilled in wind magic, and before the battle, the Fairy King gifted him the power of the Gale Fruit to aid in the defense.   With this gift, the monk was able to turn the tide of battle and help drive back the invading army.   In honor of his bravery and selflessness, the Fairy King is said to have granted him one of his greatest treasures forever linking the Sky Tree and its fruit to tales of heroism and wind-born power.
