Enlarge Person

All right, students today I’m going to teach you how to manipulate the body to make it bigger. We’ll be learning Enlarge Person, a spell that temporarily increases a person’s size through magic.   This is not a permanent change, so don’t expect it to make you taller forever or give you lasting muscles. The spell works with what is already there, increasing your mass for a short time and granting you greater height, reach, and strength with magical assistance.   Of course, being bigger also makes you an easier target. You are harder to miss, harder to hide, and far more likely to bump into things you didn’t intend to.   And for those of you who are “worried” about what happens to clothing and equipment, yes, the spell causes everything the person is wearing and carrying to grow with them. One of the earliest versions of the spell reportedly failed to account for clothing. That was a long time ago. Don’t let rumors, other students, or your own imagination convince you otherwise.   Also, once you’re larger, you must be mindful of your spatial awareness. Breaking furniture, cracking doorframes, or crushing something “by accident” is still a problem socially and legally even if you didn’t mean to.   People commonly use this spell for brute force, intimidation, and carrying heavy objects more easily. Some use it for combat, others for labor, and a few for… less discussable reasons. I once saw a friend use it to extend his reach and snag an object from behind some bars. No, we will not be discussing what he was doing or why.   Just know this: there are many clever and practical uses for a temporary size difference besides showing off or throwing punches. So be creative but also be responsible and wise when using Enlarge Person.

Effect

This spell causes instant growth of a humanoid creature, doubling its height and multiplying its weight by 8. This increase changes the creature's size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a –2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a –1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size.   A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target's speed. If insufficient room is available for the desired growth, the creature attains the maximum possible size and may make a Strength check (using its increased Strength) to burst any enclosures in the process. If it fails, it is constrained without harm by the materials enclosing it the spell cannot be used to crush a creature by increasing its size.   All equipment worn or carried by a creature is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons affected by this spell deal more damage (see Table: Tiny and Large Weapon Damage). Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature's possession (including a projectile or thrown weapon) instantly returns to its normal size. This means that thrown and projectile weapons deal their normal damage. Magical properties of enlarged items are not increased by this spell.

Side/Secondary Effects
