Arachne

Arachne are the apex predators among arachnid creatures, feared as the most deadly and ruthless of all spider-kind. Known as the Spider Queen, each Arachne commands absolute control over the spiders within her domain, ruling through instinct, dominance, and sheer intelligence.   To encounter an Arachne is to face a creature of terrifying power fast, cunning, and relentlessly efficient. They are not mindless beasts, but calculating hunters that combine physical prowess with deadly precision.   If you ever come across one, do not hesitate run.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Arachne are an all-female species, combining the terrifying form of a massive spider with the upper body of a humanoid woman.   The lower, spider-like body is predominantly black, reinforced with a hardened, armor-like shell. Along the abdomen and thorax, sharp purple spikes protrude outward durable enough to crack stone and lethal in close combat. Despite their heavy appearance, Arachne both strength and speed, allowing them to react quickly enough to evade even fast-moving attacks such as fire blasts. Arachne are also capable of producing webbing from spinnerets located at the rear of their spider body.   The spider head features eight glowing red eyes, granting them a wide and unnerving field of vision.   From the upper portion rises a humanoid torso, resembling a darkly elegant woman. Their skin is a deep purple tone, contrasted by long lavender hair. Unlike most humanoids, they possess six red eyes on their face, along with defined human-like facial features including a nose and mouth.   This dual form both monstrous and eerily human makes the Arachne as unsettling to behold as they are deadly to encounter.

Biological Traits

Wall-Crawling
Arachne can adhere to nearly any surface, allowing them to move along walls and ceilings as easily as walking on the ground. Their movement remains fluid and controlled regardless of angle, making them highly agile in all environments. While already fast and nimble, they become even more efficient when traveling along their own webs, instinctively navigating their strands with perfect awareness of position and direction.   Arachne possess exceptional physical capabilities, combining immense strength, speed, and agility. Among spider-based species, they represent the apex of natural physical performance.
Web Types
Arachne produce three distinct types of webbing, each serving a specialized purpose:   Sticky Web (Primary Webbing)   Thick, durable, and highly adhesive. This web is capable of restraining even large and powerful creatures. Escaping typically requires extreme force or the use of fire, acid, or other destructive means.   Sensory Web (Communication Network)   Extremely thin and difficult to see, this web spreads throughout the entirety of an Arachne’s domain. It functions as a detection system, allowing the Arachne to sense vibrations, movement, and weight. From this information, they can often deduce the size and nature of intruders. Additionally, smaller spiders can use these strands to relay information, effectively acting as extensions of the Arachne’s awareness.   Dark-Infused Web   Enhanced with dark mana, this web is far more dangerous. Contact with it causes a weakening effect similar to a draining poison, sapping physical strength and endurance. These webs are typically found near or within the Arachne’s den. Warning: Black webbing should be avoided at all costsburn or destroy it immediately if encountered.
Resistances & Vulnerabilities
  • Strong resistance to Dark magic
  • Resistance to Will-based magic
  • Weakness to Fire and Light magic
  • Near immunity to most poisons

Dark Magic Mastery
Arachne are powerful practitioners of dark magic, capable of casting devastating offensive spells such as orbs and rays. They also excel in illusion magic, creating false images of themselves or swarms of spiders to confuse and disorient their prey.   Their most dangerous ability is the creation of an area of complete supernatural darkness within their domain. In this state:
  • Natural sight and many light-based spells become ineffective
  • The Arachne retains full awareness of everything within the area
  • They gain total control of the battlefield
When an Arachne invokes this ability, it signals that it has deemed its target worthy prey and is no longer holding back.
Accelerated Regeneration
Arachne can rapidly heal by consuming flesh or blood. Nutrients and mana are immediately processed, converting severe wounds into minor injuries within seconds. However, this ability consumes significant energy, requiring constant feeding to sustain.
Arachnid Dominion
Arachne possess an innate authority over other arachnid creatures. Any spider within their domain instinctively responds to their presence, often treating them as a queen. Through sound, vibration, or direct awareness, an Arachne can command these creatures, turning them into obedient extensions of her will.   This ability allows the Arachne to maintain control over vast territories, using lesser spiders as scouts, defenders, and extensions of her sensory network.

Genetics and Reproduction

Arachne are capable of reproducing with large spider species. When doing so, they dominate and control their chosen mates, forcing them to fertilize their eggs. It is common for an Arachne to use multiple partners, sometimes even from different spider species.   After several months, the Arachne lays her eggs. The incubation period typically ranges from one to six months, depending on the genetic type of the contributing spiders. Variations in these “gene types” can extend development slightly, adding a few extra weeks before hatching.   When the eggs hatch, most offspring resemble their father’s species. For example, if the parent was a Miraspindle , the hatchlings will primarily take that form of Moonbud Weaver. However, they are often stronger, faster, and more lethal than normal spiders, and may even develop unique magical traits. This process can result in new variants or enhanced hybrids of existing species.   A rare but significant outcome is the birth of another Arachne. When this occurs, the mother typically views the newborn as a threat. The young Arachne must flee shortly after birth, or risk being killed and absorbed by the mother.   There is also a secondary method of Arachne emergence. Over generations, spiders that carry diluted Arachne gence can eventually produce a new Arachne. This means that even if an Arachne and her immediate brood are destroyed, surviving offspring or distant descendants may still give rise to another in the future.

Ecology and Habitats

Arachne are most commonly found in vast, interconnected cave systems. These environments are typically dark, damp, and expansive, allowing their web networks to stretch across entire regions. Their domains often include ruins or ancient structures, where natural tunnels and constructed pathways create ideal conditions for layered webs and territorial control.   These caverns are rarely empty. Arachne deliberately allow various creatures and spider species to inhabit their territory, not out of coexistence, but as a managed food supply. Every living thing within their domain ultimately exists under their control, whether it realizes it or not.   Highly intelligent, Arachne understand the importance of maintaining a stable ecosystem. They regulate the populations within their territory, ensuring there is always enough prey to sustain themselves and their offspring. Their influence turns these cave systems into carefully balanced, yet dangerous, environments where survival is dictated by the Arachne at the center.

Biological Cycle

Arachne are strict carnivores, capable of consuming entire bodies or sustaining themselves by draining blood and slowly feeding over time. They are highly adaptable in their diet and will consume nearly any creature including other spiders if it serves their survival.   What makes their feeding behavior particularly unsettling is their method of processing prey. Arachne do not simply eat for sustenance; they absorb flesh, blood, and even mana from their victims, using it to enhance their own strength and vitality.   If an Arachne finds a prey species especially desirable in taste or nourishment, it may preserve the creature rather than immediately consume it. Victims are wrapped in cocoons and kept alive through forced feeding, prolonging their lifespan so the Arachne can feed on them repeatedly over time.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Arachne are highly intelligent creatures, possessing cognitive abilities comparable to fully sentient beings. They are cunning, strategic, and exceptionally resourceful, willing to use anything and everything at their disposal to survive and dominate their territory.   They appear to have a form of spoken communication, though it is not fully understood. When an Arachne issues commands, both of its mouths produce layered sounds and vibrations. Whether this constitutes a true language is unclear, but these vocalizations clearly convey intent. Some scholars believe the sounds function less as structured speech and more as a direct transmission of instinct or command, allowing other spiders to understand and respond without the need for complex language.   Through this method, Arachne can effectively control and coordinate the spiders within their domain, directing them with precision and purpose.   Beyond communication, Arachne demonstrate strong memory, tactical awareness, and the ability to adapt. They can analyze threats, form strategies, and even utilize simple tools when necessary. Their intelligence is not bound by morality Arachne operate purely on survival, dominance, and efficiency.   Underestimating an Arachne is often fatal. Their mind is as dangerous as their body, capable of outthinking even seasoned warriors while relentlessly protecting and expanding their territory.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Arachne possess exceptional eyesight, allowing them to see clearly even in complete darkness. They have a total of 14 eyes eight located on the spider portion of their body and six on their humanoid headeach capable of focusing in different directions. This grants them a wide field of vision, enabling them to gather and process large amounts of information at once. As a result, it is extremely difficult to escape their line of sight.   Their sense of touch is also highly refined. Through their webs, they can detect even the slightest vibrations or movements, allowing them to sense nearby creatures or threats and react with remarkable speed.   In contrast, their hearing and sense of smell remain average, lacking any heightened capabilities.   However, their most dangerous trait is a form of sixth sense. In darkness or dim environments, Arachne can naturally perceive the presence of others within their domain. Even without direct visual or physical contact, they can “feel” disturbances in the darkness itself. This creates an almost instinctual awareness, making it nearly impossible to approach them unnoticed once you enter their territory.
