Rosewood Bark

Rosewood trees are a staple in the cultivated environment of New Eden and there is no material more prestigious than the Rosewood Bark. While the trees themselves had to be genetically altered to better adjust to the atmosphere of New Eden and reduce it's toxicity to it's inhabitants, the bark itself proved flexible and durable enough to create woven wearable pieces and items that became a new form of fashion statement within the empire.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Rosewood Bark is typically cut into thin strips that are then woven over and under to create a thick and dense fabric that can be shaped or constructed to make wearable materials, such as hats, shoes, tunics or durable and useful items such as bags (typically baskets or tote bags), boxes, or pillows. While this functionality and usefulness is mainly an invention from the working class, the act of comprising this with a hard to source and expensive material such as Rosewood bark is seen as a fashion statement. Mixing the initial visual effect of using a renewable material and using what you have with the cost of the material being so high that it doubles as a flex of wealth and status.

Rosewood Bark is surprisingly durable and rugged for it's prestigious origins and many bags, boxes and items that are discarded by the elite find their ways into the lower classes via Thrift Shops and estate sales, often to become well-loved heirloom items.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Trade of Rosewood Bark is mostly centralised around the capital of the Empire in New Eden as the trees themselves are highly regulated and only can be grown within royal orchards and the bark must undergo a lengthy sterilisation and decontamination process to be safe and fit for all races to enjoy.
